Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed the Gunners will sign Golden Eaglets duo of Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze who shone at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
There have been widespread reports that the duo who were the Most Valueable Player and Third best player of the tournament respectively, were on their way to signing for the FA Cup champions from Diamond Academy, Umuahia in Abia State.
Wenger on Friday in his press conference ahead of Saturday's FA Cup game confirmed the imminent arrival of the Nigerian youngsters.
“Talks are progressing well,” Wenger said. “It should be done this month.
“There are work permit issues, medical issues, as they have to both have medicals but it is progressing well.
“We identified Nwakali as the player of the tournament (at the Under-17 World Cup). He is a top player and we’ll try to get it over the line.”
Wenger also confirmed that David Ospina, and not Petr Cech, will certainly start against Burnley on Saturday in the club's fourth round FA Cup game against Championship side, Burnley.
Ospina was billed to play against Sunderland in the third round but missed the game through injury.
“Ospina will play tomorrow. Mohamed Elneny might start and I will decide on Coquelin,” Wenger told the club’s official website.
Arsenal are looking to win the FA Cup for a third successive time and will be keen to ensure that Burnley do not pull off a big scalp in the capital.
Wenger also denied reports that he is gunning for Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez.
“No. We have Danny Welbeck coming back now and Alexis Sanchez is back.
“We have Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott (up front), so you would not understand again why I don’t play Giroud and I play Hernandez. We have the quality and the number of players that we need,” the Frenchman responded when asked by the media at his Friday morning's press conference.
