West Brom defender, Gareth McAuley has revealed that all the players of the club are are looking forward to working with The Hawthorns’ new record signing from Dynamo Kyiv, Brown Ideye.
The Nigeria international is yet to be introduced to his new teammates who are currently on a pre-season training tour of the USA, but the rest of the Albion squad members are already feeling the presence of Ideye.
‘We saw a tweet from Brown Ideye, who joined from Dyanmo Kiev on Friday, stating he wants to be known here as ‘Bobby’,revealed McAuley who expressed the players desire to work with Ideye at the Hawthorns.
‘It’s big news when a club breaks their transfer record and we’re looking forward to working with Brown when we return to the UK.
‘It’s common knowledge the club have been looking to boost our attacking options and we’ve been getting the lowdown on our new striker from Big Vic [Victor Anichebe], who knows Brown from the Nigeria international set-up.
‘You can tell from Brown’s tweets and the video interview he did for this website (West Brom’s website) that he’s really excited about the move and that can only be a good thing.’
“I like what he said, that he’s coming here to score goals and help us win games. He really wants to prove himself to the Albion fans and in the Premier League and we’ll hopefully benefit from that.”
Ideye will join up with his new team-mates when they return from the USA. Meanwhile fans of the club have hailed the signing of Ideye.
Reacting on the team’s Facebook page, most of the fans expressed their belief that the 2013 AFCON winner will come good for the Baggies.
Roger Moore wrote: “Good luck to the lad, and I pray he’s a top player for us and I will support him all the way. But if he’s as good as I hope he is, we will miss him when he goes to the African Nations Cup.”
Nigel Trueman added: “Having watched youtube footage he knows where the goal is, appears to be in the right place at the right time, seems pacey, can score, confident penalties shoot with both feet and head the ball.
Another fan, Luke Tandy, wrote: “Welcome to our club Ideye! I for one will be right behind you and the rest of the squad hoping we can really push on and forget about all the sagas and problems that have engulfed the club the past season and half, Come On You Baggies! Onwards and upwards!
Dan Nash is excited that Ideye will be linking up with fellow Nigerian Victor Anichebe. He wrote: “A marquee signing at last. Thank you Albion! I like to think Ideye and Anichebe can strike up a powerful, dangerous Nigerian partnership.”
“I am for one excited by this signing he could be the next big thing. I am going to have some hope and faith in him,” added Jonathan Wellings.
Andonis Wolverson wrote: “74 goals in 182 games? Pretty decent return. Could be a good signing.”
