The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Friday, 29th August 2014, in a letter sent to the Nigeria Football Federation, warned that the NFF board presided over by Chris Giwa after last Tuesday’s NFF Congress is null and void.
FIFA insists that the embattled NFF ‘President’ must vacate his position on Monday or Nigeria risks a sanction from the world football governing body. The immediate consequence of FIFA sanctions on Nigeria at this time will be a disqualification of the Super Eagles’ from defending the AFCON title in 2015.
Dear reader, what is your candid opinion about this persisting crises at the NFF?
Giwa, a club proprietor, has stated that the NFF will respond to FIFA’s stern warning and insists that the Board is not expecting any sanction, claiming they’ve not committed any wrongdoing.
The NFF melodrama seems not to abate as there are new twists to the leadership tussles in the Glass House on a daily basis.
From the NFF Congresses held at two different hotels and a building still under construction in Abuja to a Communique released under a tree, the several arrests and the several intimidation by the Police and other Security and Crime agencies, the Nigeria Football Federation has made Nigerian football an object of ridicule in the past few weeks.
Despite FIFA’s protestations about the eligibility of Giwa’s board which ousted Aminu Maigari from his post, Giwa has defiantly insisted the NFF will not be sanctioned by FIFA before Monday. But is Cris Giwa right? Or is he taking Nigerians for a ride?
What do you think is the way out of this menace? What should have been the best possible way to handle the NFF elections?
Do you feel Chris Giwa’s ‘appointment’ into the troubled NFF is legal or otherwise? Is FIFA right or wrong in threatening to sanction Nigeria?
