Wolves Close To Patricio Fee Agreement

Wolves are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Sporting where they will only have to pay around £16million for Rui Patricio.

The goalkeeper joined Wolves on a four-year deal in the summer after he decided to terminate his own contract following reports fans attacked some members of the Sporting first team in training.

It was reported at the time the Portugual international joined on a free transfer as he was due to be out of contract at the end of last season anyway but Sporting announced they were seeking compensation and there were fears Wolves could be ordered to pay around £50million for the Euro 2016 winner by a tribunal amid claims he had severed his contract early.

However, new Sporting president Frederico Varandas is keen to put the saga to an end and, following talks with Molineux officials, it’s claimed an agreement which would see Wolves only paying £15.8million for the 30-year-old is close to being finalised.

It’s a complicated situation but reports from Portugal, as outlined by the Express & Star, say a financial resolution is finally near and any doubt over Patricio’s long-term future at the club should soon be over.

Patricio, who has impressed in the Premier League so far, keeping four clean sheets in the first eight games, was among several first-team players at Sporting to express their desire to leave after the unsavoury incident involving the fans with fellow Portugal stars William Carvalho, Gelson Martins and Bruno Fernandes also adopting a similar stance.
