Nigeria Premier League side, Warri Wolves, have rubbished suggestions Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has been sold to South Africa Premier Soccer League, PSL side, Chippa United, Completesportsnigeria.com has been informed.
It emerged that the former Heartland of Owerri shot-stopper had been granted official permission by the Seasiders to travel to South Africa where he allegedly sealed a deal with Chippa United who also have Nigeria international, James Okwuosa on their payroll.
"Our attention has been drawn to media suggestions insinuating that Akpeyi has signed a deal with Chippa United.
"We've to make it clear that it appears the enemies are back at it again, trying to lure our player through the back door for an illegal (transfer) business outside the country," Wolves' Media Officer Etu Moses reacted in a statement made available to Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Wolves image maker admitted that Akpeyi indeed underwent trials at the club but quickly confessed no deal had yet been struck.
"Akpeyi took permission to travel to South Africa for trials which was granted.
"Since he came back, the South African Club has not opened any line of discussion with us, but suddenly, the rumour is everywhere that Akpeyi has signed for Chippa United," he said.
He disclosed that in as much as the club will not stand on the way of any player, including Akpeyi, from seeking for greener pastures, the buyer should behave professionally like their counterparts in Europe by contacting the right people, this time Warri Wolves who are right owners of the player.
"Ordinarily, we would have ignored the rumour but it kept on spreading like wild fire so we decided to come out openly to deny the said contract and advise whoever that is interested in any of our player to meet the Management of the Club in Warri.
"That is the way it is done in a civilised society," said Etu.
Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is currently with the Super Eagles in their Kaduna camp ahead AFCON 2017 qualification match against Chad.
