Chris Wood narrowly missed out on the KLM Open after China’s Wu Ashun won the title by one shot at The Dutch in Spijk. Englishman, Wood, was the overnight leader going into Sunday’s final round courtesy of his six-under-par 65 on Saturday and looked on course for victory.
However, a double bogey six at the 12th proved the 30-year-old’s downfall as he then went on to par the final hole for a two-under 69.
Wu took full advantage of his rival’s misfortune as he fired a birdie at the last to finish with a 67 and 16-under overall to clinch his third European Tour crown.
Afterwards, the world number 344 told Sky Sports: “Fantastic, an unbelievable week. There was a lot of good golf played here, I like this golf course.”
Belgium’s Thomas Detry and Japan’s Hideto Tanihara finished tied for third, while Ireland’s Padraig Harrington was fifth, just three shots off the leader after a final-round 68.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
