France are the favourites to win second world title, while Croatia are looking to make history
The curtain is set to come down on this year’s World Cup, with the grand final between France and Croatia set to take place this coming Sunday (15 July) in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. The Croatians have the chance to make history with their first ever title, while France return to the final for the first time since 2006.

Where should I be investing my money?
Coming into this World Cup, France were one of the favourites for the crown, and now that all their major rivals – Germany, Spain and Brazil – have all fallen, they are the clear favourites to win their second World Cup crown. Didier Deschamps’ side are at just 1.90 to win the title inside 90 minutes, while Croatia are at 5.00 to snatch victory, according to Oddsshark.
You can also make a simpler bet based on who will lift the trophy. France again come in at the shorter price of 1.40, while you can triple your investment by backing Croatia at 3.00.
And Croatia may well be worth backing, given their displays up to this point. They have shown their resilience at this tournament, coming through no fewer than two penalty shoot-outs and an extra time showdown with England in the semi-final.
Croatia have arguably the stronger central midfield pairing, with Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic pulling the strings in the heart of the park. Having got past England after extra time, the Croatians are at 19.00 to do the same against France, and 13.00 to win the World Cup on penalties.
France, again, are at shorter prices but the rewards are greater if this game goes beyond 90 minutes. The 1998 World Cup winners are at 9.50 to win after extra time and at 10.00 if they win via spot kicks – that means a US$10 dollar investment would being in a US$100 return.
Yet while both sides look particularly strong in midfield, it is in attack where France have the upper hand. Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe have both scored three goals so far in the tournament and will be the major offensive weapons for the Blues going into this final.
Griezmann is the favourite to score, and is priced at just 2.60 to score during the game and at 5.00 to net either the first or last goal of the game. Mbappe is right behind him, priced at 6.00 to open the scoring and 3.00 to net at any time.
There is no escaping the fact that France are the favourites to get the win in a tournament which has barely seen them get out of third gear. If you think France will win this one to nil (without Croatia scoring) then you can back them to do just that at 2.62.
Having lost the European Championship final on home soil in 2016, the pressure is on France and Deschamps to deliver a title with a golden generation of players. Portugal beat France 1-0 on that occasion, and you can back Croatia to pull off that score line at a price of 10.00.
However, Croatia’s record against France is not good at all. In five previous meetings they have never won, drawing just one and losing the other four.
The most well known match between the two sides came 20 years ago, in the semi-final of the 1998 World Cup. France won that match 2-1, and they are also at 10.00 to win by the same score this time around.
A 2-1 result would mean over 2.5 goals in this game, an outcome you can back at 2.60. Given the fact this is a match of huge importance and is likely to be nervous, cagey affair, under 2.5 goals comes in at a much shorter 1.47.
Do you think both teams will get on the score sheet? Then you can also back that outcome at 2.25, giving you a chance to more than double your investment, while if you think that will not happen the price drops to 1.57.
Croatia, coming in as the underdogs and having played a full 90 minutes more than France, will have their work cut out. You can back the game to be level at half-time but France to eventually prevail at a price of 4.33.
