France avoided an embarrassment in front of their fans in their farewell game heading to the 2018 World Cup as they forced USA to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Julian Green gave USA the lead in the 44th minute, the Americans’ first ever goal against France, before youngster Kylian Mbappe equalised with 12 minutes remaining.
In action for the French were stars like Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, Olivier Giroud and Raphael Varane.
The French had won their last three friendly games prior to the draw against USA.
Their last defeat was a 3-2 home loss against Colombia in March this year.
They will open their World Cup campaign next Saturday against Australia in Group C on June 16.
In another pre-World Cup friendly in Krasnodar, Russia, Spain pipped Africa’s representatives at this year World Cup Tunisia 1-0.
Celta Vigo forward and Liverpool flop Iago Aspas scored the only goal in the 84th minute.
The 2010 World Cup winners have a tough opening fixture at this year’s edition as they will face European championships Portugal in Group B on 18 June while Tunisia will square off against England also on the same day in Group G.
