Etisalat is a brand that takes care of the needs of the youth. Ronaldo was an embodiment of that
gesture with his exuberance and talent as a youngster.
The boy from Rio de Janeiro, just like the Etisalat Network, had a humble beginning before
becoming a global brand.
Emirates Telecommunication Corporation – Etisalat was founded in 1976, same year Ronaldo was born
in Rio de Janeiro, as a joint-stock company between International Aeradio Limited, a British
Company, and local partners.
Etisalat have wide range of data plans and services which take care of the needs of its youthful
customers.
The EazyBlaze and Easy Flex are just some of the services that are provided by Etisalat.
The Etisalat company also have a plethora of world superstars as its ambassadors, global icons
who began their careers as young as Ronaldo did.
RONALDO as a 17 year old player was a part of the Brazilian squad that won the 1994 FIFA World
Cup held in United States of America.
The 24-year wait was over. In the final act of the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Brazil
overcame Italy in a typically nerve-wracking penalty shoot-out in Pasadena to become world
champions for the
first time since Mexico 1970.
The celebrating Brazilians carried flags as they ran around the pitch, one of them in tribute to
Formula One driver Ayrton Senna, killed at Imola just a few weeks earlier. Photographers massed
around them as the famous Trophy was passed from player to player, with Romario, captain Dunga
and goalkeeper Taffarel among those attracting most of the attention.
In the midst of the celebrations was a 17-year-old with a gap-toothed grin, a mere onlooker in
the winning of Brazil’s fourth world crown but who would go on to have a brilliant career and
become one of the most feared finishers in the business, fully justifying his nickname of O
Fenômeno.
That wide-eyed teenager went by the name of Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima.
Ronaldo de Lima may not have actively played a part in Brazil’s triumph in 1994 but two years
later, the world stood up and appreciated what a genius that has come to stay.
FIFA called him a phenomenon. He was part of the Brazilian U 23 side that won bronze at the 1996
Olympics in Atlanta where Nigeria became the first African nation to win the gold medal in the
Football event of the Olympics.
Ronaldo won the FIFA World Player of the Year in 1996, 1998 and 2002.He won the 2007 and 2009
Copa America titles as well.
Out of the game for 15 months after undergoing surgery, Ronaldo made a remarkable return,
arriving at Korea/Japan 2002 determined to make up for a not too good recent past and after
scoring eight goals at the 2002 World Cup. Brazil won the World Cup, the second for Ronaldo.
Ronaldo retired from the game in 2006 after the World Cup finals in Germany where he took his
World Cup goal tally to 15.
Ronaldo played for great European clubs like PSV, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. He also
played for Brazilian club, Cruzeiro.
Indeed Ronaldo was a phenomenon in every sense. He had the world at his feet at an early age. And
what a lovely coincidence, the then 17 year old revelation shares same birthday with Etisalat,
the year so many football superstars who rose to become global icons were born.
Aside from all the goals and the accolades, that ability to face and overcome adversity time and
again is perhaps the greatest achievement of a player who was truly a phenomenon.
Etisalat also overcame several challenges and is now a mainstay in the global telecommunication industry.
