Former Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni says he cannot afford to under-peform following his return to England where he has signed for Championships side,Reading.
The powerful frontman lit up the Premier League during a nine-year year stay between 2003-2012, which saw him play for the likes of Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn.
He scored 96 top flight goals during that spell, more than greats such as Dennis Bergkamp and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Known for playing with a smile on his face, ‘the Yak’ is fondly remembered and the striker has been touched by the interest his return to these shores has generated.
“I was pleased to see people recognise the good things I’d done on the pitch,” he said. “That I’d scored goals and been one of the top strikers in English football.
“It’s great to see people recognise the job I did in the Premier League.
“The people back home as well, everybody was excited to see me back in England.
“I don’t want to let them down. I don’t want to let myself down. I want to keep the momentum I had when I left two and half years ago.
“I’m still desperate for success. It’s not like I’m finished already. I still want to continue.”
The former Nigeria international added: “To start all over again is not going to be easy but I believe I can do it.
“When I get the ball, for sure I am going to score. I have confidence.
“Once you get the first one, you always believe the second one will come. I always believe I can score goals, whatever league I play in.”
