Alhassan Yakmut, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, arrived in Congo Brazzaville on Wednesday ahead of Friday’s opening ceremony of the 11th All Africa Games with a bold promise that Team Nigeria will surpass their previous performances at the African Olympic showpiece.
“We’ve done a lot in terms of preparation to put our athletes in good shape for the All Africa Games,” declared the former volleyballer to completesportsnigeria.com.
“We’ve also raised the bar in terms of motivating the athletes and in this regard we must commend the Nigerian government for providing the funds and ensuring it was made available to us in time.
“We have no doubt that our athletes will excel. We expect to surpass our performance in the last edition of the games.”
The 11th All Africa Games takess off on Friday at the magnificient Stade de I’Unite located at the Sports Complex, Kintele.
Meanwhile, Team Nigeria continued their flying start to the 11th All Africa Games with a comprehensive victory over Botswana in the badminton event.
After defeating Mozambique in the volleyball event, Team Nigeria badminton squad defeated Botswana 2-1 in the Men’s singles at the Revolution Hall of the Sports Complex, Kintele on Wednesday night.
In the women’s category, Team Nigeria Badminton team walked over their Botswana counterparts while in the men’s doubles, Nigeria completed the rout with a 2-0 victory.
