Joseph Yobo’s representative says there is no chance of the former Nigeria skipper turning out in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.
Chiedozie Nwabueze has moved quickly to end speculation that the former Everton and Fenerbahce defender is on the way to South Africa, saying that PSL clubs would never be able to afford his wages.
“It’s ridiculous to hear that. Name one South African club that can be able to afford his wages? The story is not true and I wonder where they got it from,” Nwabueze told the SL10 website.
“Yobo is not happy with the story because it’s 100 per cent false. He never discussed anything like that with any club in South Africa or anybody else; neither did he intend to buy a house in South Africa with the view of settling down there.
“What does he want to do with the said house? It’s true he wants to end his career on a high but definitely not in South Africa. After all, how much are they ready to offer him?’
“If that is the case it would have been better for him to play for a second division club in Turkey than going to play for a first division club in South Africa or even come back home to play for Sharks for free as well as manage his business in Lagos and Abuja. I think the report is insulting.”
Nwabueze went on to add that Yobo has received offers from Europe and America, as well as Asia, with China or Qatar thought to be strong possibilities.
