Home-based Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf is confident his team will qualify for the 2018 Africa Nations Championship despite the 1-0 away defeat against Benin Republic on Sunday, 13 August, in the first leg, last round of qualifiers to the competition, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Yusuf spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com on the chances of his team to overhaul the slim defeat to the Beninoise side.
“We hope to cancel the 1-0 deficit early in the game and go all out in the second half to wrap up the match,” he told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The technical crew have worked on the lapses which cost us the game in Cotonou and the boys are raring to go.
“On the fitness of the players, we have lost two players to injuries and their places have been taken by equally two good players,” Yusuf disclosed.
The Eagles defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 in a pratice game on Wednesday.
The Eagles were third place finishers in 2014 with Stephen Keshi as head coach but crashed out of the competition at the group stages in 2016. Yusuf was in the Eagles’ technical crew headed by Sunday Oliseh in 2016.
