Zambia Stun Algeria Away To Close Gap On Super Eagles

By James Agberebi:

Zambia stunned Algeria 1-0 away from home in Constantine on matchday four of African Group B 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

In the reverse fixture in Lusaka on Saturday, 10-man Zambia defeated Algeria 3-1.

The only goal of the game was scored by Patson Daka in the 67th minute to give Zambia their first away win in Group B.

The win means Zambia are now on seven points, three points behind group leaders Nigeria with two matchdays to go.

Algeria and Cameroon are now both eliminated from the race to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Zambia will travel to Uyo to face the Super Eagles on October 7 in a must-win game for the Southern Africans to give their chance of qualifying for the World Cup a big boost.

  • Nigeria just need a draw on October 7 vs Zambia to officially qualify for Russia ’18. With the present team we have, the Chipolopolo will have their hands full. The Zambians are boasting heavily with confidence that they can beat Eagles as a draw is as good as a loss to them. A win in Uyo will effectively put the match in their hands as the last match will be at their stadium in Zambia. They figured that they can win that match at home.

  • A draw wont qualify us. A win will, do the calculation.

    • A draw will qualify us with nig 11points and zambia 8points so even if zambia win their last match it will give them 11points and we will qualify on head to head.

Do ur calculation well. A draw against zambia qualify nigeria bro

  • Southeastern 4 years ago

Now it is a win that would qualify us

  • As a Zambian all i can say is lets meet in Uyo after 90 min with 5 min added time thats when you bow and say… well Chipolopolo means business. Mind you our strikers are just 19 years old. Ask Algeria from now on they will respect the name Zambia. Cheers.

We defeated Zambia on their soil and we will beat them handsomely in Nigeria. Let Zambians boast if they like. Even Kalusha has been boasting but he couldn’t prevent us from lifting the AFCON cup in 1994. The Zambians have been boasting because thieir youth Team got to the quarterfinals of FIFA under 20 but we had gotten to the final twice even before them. The Zambia Team ICAN not withstand the onslaught of our Team. The boasts will end on October 7 which is just a month away.

we will finish in Uyo what we started in zambia. We are not Algeria. Ask Camneroon if you doubt it.

      As a Nigerian I’ll say… “Yea, let’s wait @ the of 95mins”…..

I saw Zambia against Algeria, please don’t bring those two teams against Nigeria. They will be embrassed heavily. Zambia lucky to escape in Algeria, not against Nigeria attack.

    • Chidi 4 years ago

Zambians should in all honesty not raise their hope of going to the world cup.The team l saw against Algeria is not a world cup team. They were just lucky against Algeria, that defense will be embrassed heavily by the Nigerian attack.Algeria need to start rebuilding their team, against an average Zambia team they could not take their numerous chances.

A draw will do against zambia dt will give us 11points and if zambia win thier last match NIGERIA Qualify with headtohead rule

  • Aleks 4 years ago

A draw with Zambia will give eagles 11 points while Zambia will go to 8 points. If we lose the last game against Algeria and Zambia wins theirs against Cameroon, then we will go level on 11 points. But with our superior goal difference of 5 to Zambia’s 2, a draw will virtually qualify us unless Zambia beats Cameroon with as much as 6 unreplied goals in the last qualifying match. Even with 5 unreplied goals which will place us on the same goal difference, we will still qualify on head to head.
All said, it’s much better to beat Zambia at once and qualify sweating over the last round of matches.

    • Aleks 4 years ago

Correction- “with our superior goal difference of 7 to Zambia’s 2”

  • Taiwo Evidence Ige 4 years ago

A draw is what we need vs Zambia to qualify irrespective of what happens on d last day of matches. That places Nigeria on a better head-to-head over Zambia. GD will be irrelevant as long as we don’t lose to them in Uyo (God forbid!). If Zambia like, let them beat Cameroun 100-0, NO RUSSIA for them.

A Zambia that was beaten at home by our super eagle now boasting. When, they are coming to meat us at home. The maximum point they can have against us is 1.

  • There are coming with the afcon winning u-20, i laff. surely their bashing will be worse than cameroun’s.

    • QueenB 4 years ago

There’s a reason for the differentiation on age…. If they bring u-20….i sorry for them.

  • Abdulrazak 4 years ago

In Africa, when a footballer says that he is under 19, his correct age would be about 25. The real ages of the Zambian under 21 team that went to the FIFA Youth Championship would be between 25 to 28.
Let them come. Sebi their coach is called Yerenda abi, ehn e go surrender now.

  • Nigeria is winning for better for worst period…

  • EMMANUEL 4 years ago

Boasting has never won any match, good preparation, calculation and skill do. Nigeria Super eagles are it! Zambia seem to rely on boasting just to get a moral boost.
