Former Zambia assistant coach Honour Janza believes Zambia can win the Africa Cup again in Equatorial Guinea.
Equatorial Guinea will stage the 2015 African Cup of Nations as a late replacement for Morocco who withdrawing citing the Ebola epidemic.
Zambia won their only Africa Cup title to date in the 2012 tournament jointly hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Second placed Zambia are set to clinch second spot in Group F with a draw against leaders Cape Verde in Wednesday’s final qualifying match on Wednesday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
“Going back to Equatorial Guinea may see Zambia win again,” Janza said and who was then coach Herve Renard’s second assistant en route to victory in Libreville, Gabon.
“We were favoured in that atmosphere last time and maybe it was designed that we will succeed there.
“Though history cannot be relied upon, it can help the team look forward with optimism as you know we started from there and went on to finish in Gabon. We wanted to go Gabon and today, players would want to go to Equatorial Guinea.”
Zambia were unbeaten from the group stage to the semifinals in their five games played in Bata and Malabo with four wins and a draw before heading to Gabon to face Cote d’Ivoire whom they beat in the final on post-match penalties.
