–Former Chelsea star’s agent open talks with NFF
Former West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola, 48, is in the frame to handle the Super Eagles, a position which is now vacant after the Nigeria Federation decided not to extend the contract of Stephen Keshi.
Though there are several high profile coaches that have expressed interest in the job, Gianfranco Zola has emerged as a strong contender after his agent opened a line of communication with NFF big wigs.
Nigeria – born agent Ladi Salami has already started doing the groundwork to make sure his candidate is interviewed by the Nigeria Federation when names are shortlisted for the vacant post.
A source privy to the communication between Zola’s representative and the NFF told SL10.NG : ”Gianfranco Zola is interested in coaching the Super Eagles and will apply for the job as soon as possible.”
”His agent is in contact with the Nigeria Federation. No negotiations have taken place now until he formally declares interest and both sides weigh all their options.”
SL10.ng understands that Ladi Salami was behind Innocent Emeghara’s proposed move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in September, before the Swiss-Nigerian joined Qarabag on a three – year deal.
Gianfranco Zola, who played alongside Celestine Babayaro at Chelsea, is now a free agent after he resigned as manager of Watford in December 2013.
