Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has denied calling his teammate Diego Costa a cheat after Costa’s bust-up with Arsenal defender Gabriel who was sent off in their clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Zouma purportedly called Costa a cheat in a post-match TV interview on BeIN Sports but took to Twitter to explain further on his stance on the Spanish forward.
“Sorry for any confusion, English is not my first language & I did not mean to accuse anyone of cheating. Simply to say
Diego is a player who puts pressure on his opponents & who I have huge respect for,” Zouma wrote via his Twitter handle @KurtZouma.
Zouma had earlier said Costa likes to get opponents “out of his game” and his Chelsea teammates are “proud” of him even though he “likes to cheat a lot.”
When BeIN Sport’s Carrie Brown asked the French defender: “Of course Arsenal will feel hard done-by, they will claim you should have had a player sent-off in Diego Costa but this is a player that’s famed for riling other players isn’t it?
“Are you surprised that they reacted in this way?”
Zouma replied: “No, we’re not surprised because we know Diego. Everyone knows Diego and this guy likes to cheat a lot and put the opponent out of his game.”
