Alexander Zverev has confirmed he has teamed up with Andy Murray’s former coach Ivan Lendl ahead of the US Open. The German will go in search of his first grand slam title at Flushing Meadows and hopes the addition of Lendl to his entourage could give him the edge as he looks to go all the way.
Zverev took to Instagram to break the news when he posted a picture of the two on court together in New York, alongside the caption “Welcome to the team Ivan Lendl”.
Lendl has already guided Murray to glory in the 2012 US Open and former British number one Greg Rusedski believes Zverev has nothing to lose and everything to gain from the partnership.
“Lendl on the practise Courts with Zverev this week getting ready for the US Open,” Rusedski said on twitter. “Will this be the first week he is in Zverev’s players box watching and coaching?
“If so this would be great news and I believe an excellent partnership.”
