Deschamps Linked With Juve Return

World Cup-winning coach Didier Deschamps is being linked with a return to club management with old club Juventus. Deschamps is being lined up as a replacement for current boss Massimiliano Allegri according to Italy’s Tuttosport.

Allegri has just led Juve to an eighth successive Serie A title but, having added Cristiano Ronaldo to the squad last summer, failed to make a real impact on the Champions League as they were dumped out by Ajax in the last eight. Allegri is due to meet with club president Andrea Agnelli for talks on his future on Wednesday so the timing of the Deschamps news is interesting.

The Frenchman, who led France to glory at last year’s World Cup and also won the tournament as a player in 1998, has previously managed Juventus. He was in charge for their 2006/07 season in Serie B after they were demoted for their part in a match-fixing scandal but left after winning promotion back to the top flight having fallen out with the club’s board.

Deschamps remains France’s manager with the team having just begun their qualification campaign for Euro 2020. His contract expires after that tournament. Their next match is away to Turkey on June 8.
