Kyrgios Downs Isner In Mexico To Set Up Zverev Final

Australian Nick Kyrgios will play Alexander Zverev in the Mexico Open final after beating American John Isner in three sets.

Kyrgios, who was criticised by Rafael Nadal after beating the Spaniard earlier in the week, came through a tough encounter with the big-serving American.

The man from Down Under actually served 25 aces to Isner’s 24 to earn a 7-5 5-7 7-6 (9-7) victory in two hours and 21 minutes.

He had been booed while playing Nadal and in his next match with Stan Wawrinka but there were pockets of support for the controversial Aussie on Friday.

“It’s insane,” he said. “One point they were cheering my name, another point they were booing me. It’s just entertainment.”

Progress was smoother for Zverev in the other semi-final as he beat British world number 64 Cameron Norrie 7-6 (7-0) 6-3.

The German was expected to progress but admitted that conditions did not make it easy. “It was very tough,” he said.

“It was pretty windy, not easy conditions, and his game actually I think fits the wind quite well, so it was not easy. “I’m just happy to be through.”
