Lam Stoked By Gloucester Scalp

Bristol boss Pat Lam admitted his pride after watching his side beat Gloucester in the Gallagher Premiership on Friday night.

Not many pundits gave the Bears much of a chance heading into the match – they had not beaten the Cherry and Whites in 11 years  – but the hosts pulled off a 28-24 success at Ashton Gate.

Dan Thomas and Andy Uren scored the home side’s tries while they were also awarded a penalty try, with Callum Sheedy landing two penalties.

The visitors touched down through Jason Woodward, Tom Marshall and Ollie Thorley as Billy Twelvetrees secured nine points with the boot. However, it was not enough and Lam was delighted that his charges finally got the reward they deserve.

“I’m really proud of the boys because a win was what we’ve needed for a while,” he said. “We’ve been playing some good rugby, but we were killing ourselves by losing ball and making mistakes.

“We started extremely well, that’s what we aimed to do. We put a lot of energy into the game. “You look at Gloucester and what they can bring, and what they have done to Exeter and Saracens, it was all about the mental side.

“We had belief in our game and what brings it alive is the energy.”
