Saints Star Targeting Easter Return

St Helens head coach Justin Holbrook says Theo Fages is hoping to be back from injury over the next couple of weeks before Easter.

The 24-year-old scrum-half sustained a hip injury in the latter stages of Friday’s 36-24 victory over Hull KR. Saints initially feared that he could be on the sidelines for a lengthy period after Fages was found to have torn the oblique muscle off his bone.

However, after further assessment, they have confirmed the injury doesn’t require an operation and Holbrook believes his man could be back after the games against Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves.

Holbrook said: “He is not great at the minute, and as soon as he came off I knew it was more than a corked hip that he could run out. “He has torn the oblique muscle off the bone area and will miss a couple of weeks.

Hopefully he will be back for Easter – he just needs recovery time, not surgery.” Fages’ absence will provide Danny Richardson, who has been on loan with Leigh Centurions, a first-team chance.

Holbrook added: “The best thing about dual reg is that he has been playing at Leigh.

He started slowly there but has put a few good games together there. “If we had not had that then he would not have played for eight weeks before he is called upon. He will be excited to get his opportunity.”
