Good to know we’re moving forward.

Kudos to NFF, Rohr & his crew and the players.

  • Now this is the sort of news that delights my heart. Well done Gernot Rohr, the NFF and the Super Eagles. Long may this sort of upward trend continue.

O God, may u fight and disgrace my enemies like this. Rohr is really blessed. He carries the favour of God just like David in the Bible.

We deserve to be Numero Uno in Africa. Why is Nigeria easily satisfied with low pass grades? Blame it on poor management of human resources and corruption. We need to up our game and realize the country’s vast potential in sports.

    Question for forumites.
1.pls, where is Kelechi Iheanacho’s best position?
2.Should Wilfred Ndidi leave Leicester City in the summer?
3.Why were Umar Sadiq and other Nigerian prospective players not giving a chance to play in the dead-rubber tie against Lesotho?
4.Can Nigeria ever solve the creative midfield problem, always naming only 4 midfield players in a squad of 24 players?
5.Can Nigeria win the AFCON Showpiece in Cameroon 2022?
6..Can Nigeria ever get Eberechi Eze, Michael Oliseh and Ovie Ejaria into the Super Eagles?
7.If Yes what would be the fate of the likes of Oghenekaro Etebo, Alexander Iwobi, Joe Aribo in the Super Eagles?
Pls, forumites throw more light on the above question.
God Bless Super Eagles.God Bless Nigeria. Your contributions, please ever Loving Nigerians.Congrats to us all in our AFCON qualification with two games to spare leading to the teams’upward movement in the Rankings released by FIFA.

Dear Obiweluozor, your questions are mind boggling and the question on the minds of all of us Super Eagles fans . With a good preparation I think we stand a chance of winning AFCON 2022 and I will love to encourage the NFF, now we have a Nigerian in the FIFA council to push for Michael Olise, Ovie, Lookman and Ehizibue’s nationality switch. With the form of Simy Nwankwo, I don’t know if there will be a free window to test these players including Cyril Dessers to see what they can add to the team. The same goes to Umar..We need our best legs to win and keep climbing the FIFA ranking.

Nigeria should work very hard on their defend, and to clear all their ball to the front not to delay ball at the back this dangerous

    • Coachie 3 years ago

      @Obiweluozo;
Omo i don’t envy Rorh at all at the moment not to talk of when those your nationality switches in (6) cum (7) eventually go through and the aforementioned guys become available.
Gernot Rorh should be ready for gbas gbos as regards team selection i swear.
God bless the Super Eagles of Nigeria

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hmmm….Good questions Obiweluzor. Your questions evoke real critical thinking and they are well thought out. I wish I had the right answers for them all, but it may be quite impossible, maybe because the questions aren’t directed to the best persons to provide the best answers.

That said, IMHO, Kelechi’s BEST position is a supporting role behind a main, mobile and deceptively dangerous strike partner. He has flourished in that role time and again from his youth football days for us to categorically conclude on that.

Ndidi is long overdue to Leave LCFC…..although if he has to, it has to be an upward move. Being one of the best anchormen in Europe consistently for 3-4 years shows he’s no fluke and sure deserves to be in a stable, title challenging and UCL favorites team…..Dortmund, Juve, Inter, Madrid are names that do not sound too big for a name like Wilfred Ndidi to play in. LCFC have punched above their weight is the past few seasons but in all frankness are still much more of a Europa place team in England rather than a title contender. Ndidi in nearing his peak and the time to win trophies shouldnt come any later.

“Sadiq Umar and other prospective players” as you called them weren’t in the team vs Lesotho, so they couldn’t have played. Apart from the 3 homebased players, almost every other player in the team has been in the team for 3 or more years running now and have all featured for the SE at one point or the other, so….?? the man in charge in his words wanted to use the match to halt the run of continuous chopping and changing in the team in the last 4-5 matches and maintain some form of stability ahead of the WC Qualifiers in June since there will be no opportunity to do that till then. This decision makes a lot of sense, even though fans prefer otherwise, but the man in charge, who would lose is job when things go wrong, took such a decision and I think its best we respect it.

Nominally, Nigeria always names “4 midfielders” in a squad of 23, but when you look critically at it, a certain Iwobi is usually listed as an attacker, a certian Shehu Abdullahi often listed as a defender while a Semi Ajayi who naturally is a defender can also double as a defensive midfielder. Technically that makes a 7 potential midfielders which really isnt bad. And when you look critcally at it, if each position in a 4-2-3-1 formation (which is Rohr’s usual formations) were to have 2 persons each, that makes 22 positions….and with the 3rd goal keeper, that makes 23……so really, is the gaffer committing a crime…??

On the creative midfield “problem”, lets be sincere with ourselves, creativity is a problem for African football as a whole, I really dont know why, but we rarely produce TRULY creative midfielders in large numbers in these parts. Players like Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu, Steven Appiah, Pascal Feindounou, Seydou Keita, Mohd Aboutrika, Tresor Mputu and so on, who are naturally gifted and consistent with creative intelligence from the central core only come once in a generation. Unfortunately, we cannot manufacture them, neither is it so easy converting players into such roles. You just have to have it….vision, decision making, ability to find the right pass, comfortbale with the ball to fit, tactical intelligence, ability to work with tight and little spaces etc. In Africa, We find our creativities mostly from the wings. The few creative ones we get per time, we use, and that is why it is pertinent that we try our best possible to get the likes of Olise and Ejaria who seem to have it all. Eze at 23 years of age has chosen to go sit on the bench of an England U21 team that couldnt win a single game at the European U21 championships. we cant beg anyone to help his own destiny. And if we eventually get them, it doesnt in any way jeopardize the position of Iwobi, Aribo or Etebo in the team. Infact those new guys will have to work their butts off to displace the 3 above. Interntional football isnt bean o. If you are going to displace those 3 elders above, then you are really gonna have to be special, especially iwobi and etebo….shuuuu…..those ones are small beetles with big engine o.

Can Nigeria win 2022 AFCON….Oh yes we can. I as a person, Im very very optimistic about that….but the bad news is that other countries too can. There’s Senegal, there’s Tunisia, there’s the defending champions Algeria, there’s Morocco, there the host Cameroon who are no push overs, and there also the likes of Ghana and CIV you are always ready to pull their weight too. There will be 15 others who will be there to compete too. No one knows tomorrow, So lets keep fingers crossed. If we all knew which countries will win which tournaments 2-3 years ahead of time then what’s the point organizing the competition in the 1st place. It would be better to just hand the trophy over and let the world move on and have peace. We came narrowly close last time, we have a better team now, in terms of experience, togetherness, chemistry, net talent pool and all that….so why cant we go a step further. The coach has said it, the players keep saying it, the FA has made it a mandate, so AFCON 2022 has become imperative. Yes We Can. May the gods of football smile on us….let no fake COVID tests, bias VAR decisions or self destruct buttons from internal saboteurs hamper that dream. But do we have the potentials…?? Absolutely.

Dont say I told you, but this current SE is highly feared and respected on this continent.

      • Profjeff 3 years ago

I think africa should have an u23 championship like those europeans do and not wait for the Olympics every 4 years cos with the pool of talents we have and limited slot in the senior team, the clamouring for any striker who scores a goal will be reduced to its bearest minimum….also as much as i want to clamour for some of these new guys rumoured to have switch nationality to be invited,i think the team is covered in all positions and the ones already available usually spill into a standby list,i think no new players should be invited except for friendlies…..I remember how a certain joe aribo was like the messiah on the lips of forumites before he was available for selection, recently the same forumites are the ones bashing the guy every opportunity they get.

Multiple accolades to you @Dr Drey for this brilliant analysis. I been dry think say make I open a sports website and they pay you as football columnist. I no get money for PhD people. You go help me manage the little way I get (laughs)

Wia dem dey…..???? LMAO. Their hearts are currently being dipped in raw acid now…..LMAO. Rohr is a dumb idiot, Rohr is brain dead, Rohr must be sacked, Rohr cant win a match in a “whole year”, Rohr played draw against minnows…..waa waa waa waa waa….LMAO.
How about Rohr the dumb, senile brain dead PE trained mechanic, has won “all” his matches this year…?? How about Rohr still qualified for AFCON with 2 games to spare despite playing 2 consecutive draws….? How about the Rohr has led his team back up the FIFA ladder…?? How about we have now overtaken Algeria and Morocco and now back to where we where before the blip…?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news to them, but our next target in no 1 in Africa and top 20 in the world. Just wait till when we breeze past Liberia and CAR in June to hit top 30, CPV back to back and CAR and Liberia again to hit top 25, qualify in grand style for the world cup in November and win AFCON in January to smash the top 20 tape.
They can continue their destructive plans and machinations on Zoom for all we care…..LMAO
As @Deo as said up there. Long may this upward trend we have consistently seen in the past 5 years continue

  • King S 3 years ago

This is a delightful news. Rohr is “PE Mechanic” has done it again. We await shameless critics to say it’s the “players determination” that brought this exciting development.

@Dr.Drey… You no the tire? You too get energy for scuffles haba. It’s a job welldone for every Super Eagle family… Administrators, Coaches, players and Fans. The away victory against Benin Republic was massive as well as the home win. However, we defeated Lesotho even before we kicked a ball… *Smiles*! One love forumites…

I will also get tired the day you and your boys get tired. LMAO. 1st blip as SE coach, a very harmless blip for that matter, and y’all went waa waa waa for months telling us how Emperor Nero take slap Emperor Constantine for lokoja wia River Niger and Benue meet…..LMAO.
I like the way all of una don humble now…..LMAO. I hope una don finish to clean the latrine when Rohr give una to clean….LMAO. Wia that una messenger wey still dey cry make we put invite fatai Alashe and Fanendo Adi for SE in year 2021….?? LMAO. E still never recover from in COVID-32…???

  • Proudly 9ja 3 years ago

Here is my take personally on the questions you asked

    1. Kelechi in my view has always been a support striker not the main striker. I have never seen a better finisher in the box than Kelechi, atleast in a 9ja shirt. You won’t get the best out of him if u play him as the main striker, he is best when he arrives in the box late if u get my drift.
    2. if Ndidi should leave he should go to a team where he will play regularly. his best bet will be man united as he will command a 1st team shirt there. he will easily displace Fred, matic, Mactominay (spelt his name wrong). He can’t bent casemeiro in real, nor de jong in Barcelona, it will be hard to bench fabinho or Henderson in Liverpool
    3. Sadiq wasn’t released by Almeria though he was originally invited. FIFA allowed clubs to retain their players due to covid 19. Clubs were not obligated to release their prized asset which Sadiq is for Almeria. Same for Moses Simon, omeruo etc
    4. 9ja can solve the creative midfield problem and GR is on the right path in solving that problem. He recognizes that deficiency thats why he is looking at olise, ejaria. Also remember iwobi is still capable to doing a yeoman job.
    5. 9ja will always be a favorite to win d AFCON any time we participate. We have the pedigree and the players to achieve it, but other countries can win it too. It might not be your day for a particular game and u might end up losing when the knockout phase starts not for lack of ability but its just not your day.
    6. on paper we can still get Eze but I think he isn’t better than Ejaria or olise or Iwobi even though I think he will add value to the SE. His style of play is similar to Ejaria and won’t be missed if he represents England at senior level. As for Olise, I doubt if GR would place him o the standby list if he hasn’t agreed to play for 9ja, that would be a grave mistake on GR’s part which is very unlikely bcos knowing GR he measures twice and cuts once unlike pinnick if u get my meaning. Same can be said of Ejaria, GR has never denied his admitting of Ejaria, would be great if we get him, very decent ball carrying midfielder. Lots of talent there. The problem will be who gives way when they come in. I think our midfield players should be Ndidi, shehu, etebo, iwobi, aribo, olise, and ejaria meaning some players like semi ajayi, Collins will have to give way The reason I mentioned Collins is that Aina can deputize for Sanusi if need be and moses Simon can also play that wingback role if need be. Semi ajayi exclusion doesn’t need explaining as he isn’t good enough imho as a DM or CB when compared to who we have at those positions.
    7. Those players u mentioned are needed in my view but one might have to give way to accommodate olise and ejaria. I don’t envy GR as he has some big decisions to make. Coming up with the best 23 players won’t be an easy task but a good headache to have.

    Just my take

  • We are now only 25 points behind Tunisia in second place.

We gained 13 points with the two wins against Rep of Benin and Lesotho. If we get maximum points from our world cup qualifiers and Tunisia slip up in one or two matches we might catch them this year

  • Profjeff 3 years ago

Eze should not be invited to the national team cos i think he has already belittled the country.let him stick with his choice, nigeria is too big a footballing nation to be second or third choice to these footballers..we can wish him well but not ridicle ourselves by continually begging him to dorn the green and white jersey which should actually be a thing of joy for a true nigerian.

  • Oakfield 3 years ago

Lol…. Dem bemladi boys don run past dem “masters” in such a short period of time. Of a truth, this mechanic of a coach is really doing a vrry good job, haters and bad belles are still in hiding in their miserable fox holes. This na just the beginning. Congrats Mechanic Rohr, and his team. u really sabi how to use your tools wella as a good mechanic. We had other mechanics in the past but they were so bad at their job that they failed to effectively use their tools properly to achieve success. Some even had to abandon their tools when the heat became too much for them to bear. Hehehe.

    • Goal ⚽️ 3 years ago

Don’t forget that criticism makes one better as we can see that Rohr really improved tactically and in decision making in those two games we played.

Do I need to give instances? There are many but the foremost is that his changes were effective unlike before.

So my brother oakfield just come down, na part of the game, we all wants the best for the team.

  • Barth 3 years ago

@proudly 9ja,i love your analysis, really, you have foresight more than so call this forum heavy weights. As for ebere Eze, I don’t think SE will miss him a bit, for me Ejaria will be more useful in SE than him as per the options available. For me, Azubuike Okechukwu stands a good of making 2022 world cup squad if he stays injury free and gets more game time. I will always support two defensive midfielders in a match. Have you ever wondered why siasia succeeded as youth coach?, he always two defensive midfielders! Whatever formation in a match, they always adjust to be two defensive midfielders. Azubuike Okechukwu is a gem that naija is yet to tap from, Imagine a squad of Uzoho/Maduka, Aina/Tyrone, Sanusi,Ekong, Balogun, Ndidi, Azubuike, Ejaria, chukwueze, Osihmen and lukman. For me just my naija imaginary squad!. My other squad for 5-3-2 is Uzoho/Okoye, Tyrone, Ekong, Balogun, Adarabioyo, Sanusi/Aina, Ndidi, Azubuike, Ejaria, Moffi and Osihmen. This squad is for me.

  • Can someone educate me on the reason why Rhor invited Nigerian Homebase players to our last qualifiers and still went ahead to play a clubless Musa ahead of them?. . . im wondering, is there something im missing here.
