Trippier Reveals Secret To Atletico’s UCL Win Vs Liverpool

Trippier Reveals Secret To Atletico’s UCL Win Vs Liverpool

Kieran Trippier has revealed how Atletico Madrid overcame Liverpool in their Champions League second-leg round of 16 tie at Anfield.

Atletico won 3-2 on the night (and 4-2 on aggregate) with just 29 per cent possession.

But former Tottenham Hotspur defender, Trippier, defended their tactics, claiming they were effective.

The England international says Atletico’s approach was to soak up Liverpool’s pressure because they knew they would tire.

“We knew they would blow up because of the amount of pressure they’d applied and the amount of energy they’d put into the game,” said the right-back.

“We knew they’d slow down. It took us over 100 minutes, but we won 3-2.

“People can complain as much as they want, but we thought it was necessary for that type of game.

“As I’ve got older it has stopped bothering me.

“Liverpool didn’t put their chances away and we beat them in both legs. It worked.”

Trippier hit back at Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s criticism of Atletico’s style, claiming winning is what matters most.

“People have this perception that we’re a defensive side, but I think they’re getting too carried away with the way we played against Liverpool.

“If you go there and go toe-to-toe with Liverpool, you’re going to get beat 6-0. I don’t know what people expect.

“You see pundits complaining because we did defend, but did they expect us to go there and play attacking football, especially with Liverpool playing the way that they’re playing at the moment?

“You need to go there with a plan and we did that.

“We did have to defend, but the most important thing is that we got the win.”

Atletico have been dubbed the ‘Spanish Burnley ’ because of the way they beat Liverpool but Trippier couldn’t be happier to be compared to his old club.

“Even when I was there, people complained about the way they played, but they get results and that’s what football is about,” said Trippier

“When you’re in the Premier League, you can’t expect Burnley to match Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea.

“Burnley have a specific way of playing and it works because they get results and it keeps them in the Premier League.”

Let Rohr deploy this kind of tactics now and ‘they’ will accuse him of lack of confidence, being conservative and begging for draw. LMAO

Lol @Dr Drey, you argue with swagg. Nothing do you my brother.

  • @ dr drey make we hear world. they won because they have a good coach. they dont have the type of coaches we have in the super eagles. Your father GR is just an average coach stop singing for him Just because he won ordinary afcon bronz. We lost to argentina and algeria becausd we dont have a good coach.

    • Ayphillydegreat 4 years ago

Abeg make we hear word. All your tantrums against Rohr doesn’t hold anything. Rohr had previously defeated Algeria and Argentina as the SuperEagles coach.

@Ayphillydegreat my old friend, but what happened against the two teams you mentioned at the world cup and Afcon?

When it was matter most the coach fumbled.

The same mistake he made in Russia reating itself in Afcon.

Shall we call that failure or great achievement?

What is the purpose of qualifying Nigeria to a very important tournament and fail badly?

Oh well. I’m just passing by ni oooo lol. God bless Nigeria!!!

        • Ayphillydegreat 4 years ago

Omo9ja. Yes we qualified for the world cup at the expense of Algeria that were the number one ranked team in Africa at the time. We qualified for the world cup at the expense of Cameroon that were the African champions at the time and Zambia that has been a force in African football for a long time. At a time when people like you and your miserable allies never gave the SuperEagles any chance to qualify for that world cup in Russia. It was after we qualified with a game to spare that you and your miserable morons started dreaming of winning the mundial with a relatively young team that had never been to any major tournament prior to that world cup. LMAO!!! I laugh in Urobo. Remember! We failed to qualify for two consecutive AFCONS until Rohr came in and took the SuperEagles to that mundial. I gave them kudos for standing tall against Argentina and pundits all over dubbed them “Africa’s team of the future”. They were only minutes away plus a robbed penalty from eliminating all mighty Argentina with the great Leonel Messi. At the AFCON we lost to a share individual brilliance and won’t blame a team that had missed two previous AFCONS, but eventually defeated a team 20 places ahead of them to claim the bronze. As far as I know SuperEagles are steadily returning to the glory days under Rohr.

@Ayphillydegreat, are you still talking about that Cameroonian team in this matter?

Cameroon have nothing left in football but name.

Cameroon have no team anymore. The only thing Cameroon have now is their name.

What did they play in last year’s Afcon?

Did you watch the second led of the encounter in Yaounde? If yes, why coach Rohr’s team failed to finished the job in Cameroon?

However, why Iwobi that unlocked the Zambian defense was benched in Russia?

Why Osimeh wasn’t given enough of chances in afcon?

But you people still believe that coach Rohr is the best for the job?

The manager that didn’t believe in young talented players when it’s matter most?

Osimeh should thank his God that he played a bit in Afcon.

And when we patriotic Nigerians pointed out coach Rohr’s errors, you people keep fighting us for nothing.

You guys keep saying we qualified with a game to spare but

forgetting that coach Rohr’s team always find it hard to play against an organized team.

            Against Zambia, we saw it.

            Against Algeria, we were beaten.

Last year Afcon, we were beaten by how many goals during the group stages my old friend?

And you and your group keep attacking innocent Nigerians for saying the truth about the coach?

Ah. bia, enough of this bla bla bla about coach Rohr.

You also said we failed to qualified for Afcon twice in a row but whose fault? NFF.

NFF had never treated our local coaches very well and that is what we are trying to change.

I can give you three ex players of ours that can surpassed Oga Rohr records if given the opportunity and full support from NFF.

            Eguhavon
            Amunike
            Yobo

If given a chance, they will rule the world.

I appreciate coach Rohr’s efforts but it is time for him to have two of our ex players with him because he need help.

I’m not worried about your bad words because your attitude shows who you are.

No wonder the guy you trained on this forum is behaving like you lol.

But at this stage my friend age is on your side and I am advising you to leave this abusive words aside.

            Let’s talk about football.

Coach Rohr should not be sacked. That is not the solution.

NFF have done well in terms of getting Yobo on board but the real thing now is to find another ex player, somebody like Eguhavon or Amunike to joint the crew.

By doing this, we are ready to go but the way it is now, we are not ready yet.

The best our Super Eagles can get against the big teams is draw.

To achieve something spectacular with the manager, NFF have to work really hard to get him the best of the best of our ex players.

We have them available. NFF should act fast. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

So Klopp must be a bad coach now for loosing to Athletico Madrid home and away despite being defending champions…LMAO.

Its plain useless arguing with you. Lolz

    • Dr. Drey 4 years ago

GR is an average coach we gree. Go and bring your own father who is world class coach to come and coach SE na….LMAO..!

An average coach that delivers results. You single out 2 matches out of 49 to judge a coach, pls what of the other 29 he has won, was it your mother that taught him what to do to win those matches….?

Rohr don cook soup now the soup don dey sweet, dem dey find how to take over make dem lick the soup….the hunger wey go kill una dey use leg waka come all the wey from Wuhan. LMAO

You lack home training for you mentioning someone’s parent @Drey.

You are not worthy to be a human being because you called yourself Drey.

Drey doesn’t belong here because animals live in the bush.

Go and ask Oyinbo people why they don’t keep “DREY” at home? That is the home assignment I’m giving you today.

        Nonetheless, I’m well trained.

I have home training and I’m not like you.

You don’t have respect for someone’s parent and I don’t think you will have respect for your own parent at home.

Education is meaningless if you have no respect, dignity and integrity for others. You have no quality of being worthy of attention.

Coach Rohr can not finish the job. He doesn’t have what it takes to deliver and if NFF ask someone to help him, I don’t think that should be a bad idea.

My own concern about NFF is that, they should give Oga the right person to work with him. If you are not pleased with that, express yourself in a normal way and don’t be rude or arrogant to no one.

        God bless Nigeria!!!

        • Dr. Drey 4 years ago

          Hahahaha….Omo ale…!

What did your own home training teach you other than to tell fat lies in public and latter deny you never did….or to be a double mouthed scoundrel…? If I’m not worthy to be a human being then you are not worthy of even existing.

Those who live in glass houses don’t throw stones. If you think you will throw shades and get away with it, o boy, you are seriously mistaken.

You are well trained indeed…that’s why your behaviour is not any different from that of street urchins. LMAO

    Trash

  • Shut up you fool! Must he always win whenever we play them? Life is all about ups and downs you can be winning at all time. Why did Klopp lost to Athletico Madrid despite being the team in form to compare to Athletico. Don’t even why people waste their precious time arguing with you cos your points are always senseless, bias and full of hatred. Idiots.
