Their consistency and influence have not only earned plaudits from fans and pundits, but also strengthened Nigeria’s growing reputation as a producer of talented footballers.
In this feature, Completesports.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU highlights 10 Nigerian footballers who have enjoyed exceptional campaigns in Europe during the 2025/26 season.
Emmanuel Fernandez (Rangers)
Fernandez was virtually an unknown figure before arriving at Ibrox from English League One club Peterborough United last summer. The centre-back, however, caught the eye with his impressive performances at the heart of Rangers’ defence.
The 24-year-old was rewarded with a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles, as well as being named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.
The defender, who has scored five goals in 24 league appearances for the Light Blues, was also voted Rangers’ Player of the Year.
Ademola Lookman (Atlético Madrid)
The talented winger switched from Atalanta to Atlético Madrid during the January transfer window and has quickly established himself as a key player for Los Colchoneros.
Lookman contributed immensely to Atlético’s run to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they lost 2-1 on aggregate to Arsenal. He registered two goals and two assists in eight appearances in the competition.

The 28-year-old has also scored twice in eight league outings for the Red and Whites. He also recorded three goals and one assist in four Copa del Rey matches.
Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)
The 27-year-old struggled with fitness issues at various stages of the season, but still played a key role in Galatasaray’s push for a fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title.
The striker has so far recorded 15 goals and five assists in 22 league outings for the Yellow and Reds.
Osimhen also contributed seven goals and three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League appearances.
Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor)
Onuachu joined Trabzonspor on a permanent transfer from Southampton last summer. The striker had previously spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Papara Park.
The 31-year-old has justified his signing with an impressive return of 22 goals and two assists in 27 league appearances for the Black Sea Storm.
He is aiming to succeed his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, as the Turkish Super Lig’s top scorer. Osimhen won the Golden Boot last season with 26 goals from 30 matches.
Maduka Okoye (Udinese)
The goalkeeper was suspended for two months at the start of the season over his alleged involvement in a betting scandal.
However, the former Watford star has since bounced back strongly to regain top form.
Okoye has kept 10 clean sheets in 28 Serie A matches for Udinese this season.
The 26-year-old also set a new personal record of three consecutive clean sheets following the Zebras’ 3-0 win against AC Milan in April.
It was the first time in his career that he recorded three consecutive clean sheets at club level.
Alex Iwobi (Fulham)
“Mr Reliable” has enjoyed another fine campaign for Fulham, who are chasing a European ticket. The 30-year-old has contributed four goals and three assists in 27 league outings for the Whites this season.
Alex Iwobi remains a fan favourite at Craven Cottage, with his versatility making him one of the first names on head coach Marco Silva’s team sheet.
Moses Usor (LASK)
Moses Usor has emerged as one of the shining lights for Austrian club LASK this season. The winger has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 29 league appearances for the Black and Whites.

Usor was on target in LASK’s 4-2 Austrian Cup final victory over Altach last weekend.
LASK are also in contention to claim a first top-flight title since the 1964/65 season. They are currently two points ahead of defending champions Sturm Graz.
Frank Onyeka (Coventry City)
The defensive midfielder made a strong impact after joining Coventry City on loan from Brentford during the second half of the season. Onyeka’s arrival coincided with the Sky Blues’ push for promotion, and he quickly became a key figure in midfield.
The 28-year-old’s aggressive pressing and tackling improved Coventry’s midfield balance. He contributed one goal and one assist in 14 appearances for Frank Lampard’s side.
His loan deal will reportedly be made permanent following Coventry’s promotion to the Premier League.
Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest)
Aina’s versatility and consistency have made him one of the Premier League’s most reliable full-backs. The 29-year-old suffered an injury while on international duty in October 2025, but returned earlier this year to reclaim his place in Nottingham Forest’s starting XI.
The former Chelsea defender has featured in 26 matches across all competitions for the Tricky Trees this season, contributing two assists.
Calvin Bassey (Fulham)
The 26-year-old has been a key figure in Fulham’s defence since joining the club from Dutch giants Ajax in 2023.
Bassey has been a consistent presence for the Whites this season, delivering a string of impressive performances that have further underlined his reputation as one of the Premier League’s top defenders.
He has contributed one goal in 28 league appearances for the London club.
