2021 AFCON: ‘We Will Deliver For Nigeria’ —Awoniyi

Taiwo Awoniyi has said he and his Super Eagles teammates will deliver for Nigeria at this month’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Awoniyi will be making his first senior appearance at a major tournament, when this year’s AFCON kick-off on January 9th.

The Eagles are in Group D with Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau and will open their campaign against the North Africans.

And in a chat with NFF TV, Awoniyi said:”For us it is to go there and do everything for the country. We just finished another training session, getting there step by step and when the time comes we will deliver for the country.

The Union Berlin striker also spoke about how training has been going under interim coach Austine Eguavoen.

He added:”It’s been a great session, two times a day since we resumed camp, different drills getting us to the rhythm and getting us ready for the games.“

  • Coach Eguavoen is no doubt doing his very best and thank God he has players who are ready to do the country proud. The moment they get all the support from our football administrators, kabooooom! Afcon Gold.

I think Dennis has jeopardized his WC chances with Nigeria if we qualify for the WC…… Staying back to play for your National team is just unpatriotic. I know he is not the only African in the Watford team and all the other ones are going to the Nations cup. This is one thing European footballers dont play with but our Africans cuz the disrespect we get from the Western world. I see why Rohr shunned him……Players like this can scuttle team harmony.

I meant staying back to play for his club over the national team*** and I knw watford is fighting relegation but let’s not be fooled that Dennis is tha type of one man player that can carry a team or save them from relegation. Even tho he is scoring, Watford is still losing….Ranieri has lost 10 out of his last 12 matches.

You are right Dennis can bring bad energy to the squad if not given game time. Like a post I read when he said he decided to sit back and help Watford because he was not guaranteed starting role what a bullshit if that’s to be true he should kiss SE goodbye if that’s part of the reason he is not in SE camp today such a player with disgusting attitude is an impurity in SE squad. Goodluck with your club career try and change nationality to be frank I don’t want to see him near SE again.

  • If awoniyi is to start ahead of other strikers, he would need an iheanacho to give him tailor made passes just like in their u-17 days. Hope he scores loads of goals during the AFCON.

  • The mind has to conceive it before the man can achieve it, so the saying goes. Well said Awoniyi. You have the right mindset and a winning mentality.

“For us it is to go there and do everything ;and when the time comes we will deliver for the country.” Taiwo Awoniyi.

That is the spirit, lad! That is the spirit!

Expectations are starting to rise and morale amongst some fans is being boosted by such positive vibes emanating from players like Awoniyi.

This current crop of players are very much talented and in Eguavoen, they have a decent interim indigenous coach. It’s slowly building to an epic showdown in Cameroon where the Super Eagles might yet again rubbish convention and confound critics.
