2021 AfroBasket: D’Tigers Crash Out After Shock Defeat To Uganda

Nigeria’s D’Tigers have crashed out of the 2021 AfroBasket in Rwanda after a shock defeat to Uganda, in the round of 16 on Tuesday, Completesports.com reports.

Coach Mike Brown’s side suffered their second defeat of the competition after losing 80 – 68 to Uganda.

It was back-to-back defeats for D’Tigers who lost their final group game to Cote d’Ivoire. Despite the defeat to the Ivorians, they advanced into the knockout round following the two wins recorded against Mali and Kenya in the group.

At the end of the second quarter D’Tigers went into the break trailing by 13 points with half time score reading 44 – 31 in favour of the East Africans.

All efforts to try and get back into the game proved futile as the Nigerian team ended the third quarter trailing by 18 points, as the score stood at 67 – 49.

What do you expect? After they forced homebased players on him even though we don’t really have a solid basketball league.

Serves us right. That is where our arrogance and lack of respect for other nations has led us. We think we are the only ones God has blessed with talents and hence can just put together just anybody to go face the rest of Africa….same as we hallucinate about our football(ers).

We were clearly outclassed today. Man for man, on the balance of play, individually and collectively, there was hardly any of our players who would have made Uganda’s starting line up. If the performance vs Ivory coast was embarrassing, today’s was disgraceful. After the shame of Tokyo, instead of apologizing to those boys for the shameful experiences they were put through that made them to down tools, we felt they should go to blazes…afterall….it is ordinary afrobasket….it is Africa and we are Nigeria…we can raise 10 BB teams if we want to….as if we have ever won more the the 1 Afro-basket we have managed to win so far.

Dear Mr. Mike Brown, welcome to Nigeria….dont let anybody deceive you we are giant of Africa hence you do not need to call up your best squad possible all the time. INSIST ALWAYS ON HAVING YOUR BEST SQUAD…..ALWAYS. Because those who are forcing 4 homebased local content on you today will be the ones to turn against you tomorrow. Take a cue from Gernot Rohr…..respect all teams because your job will one day depend on the number of competitive games you have won and lost. What shall it profit you to win friendly matches and suffer ignominious losses in competitive games…..What shall it profit you to defeat USA and Argentina in friendlies and then lose to Ivory coast and Uganda at AFROBASKET…..Nada…!!!

I agree with you on the home based players, we didn’t need them and it’s one of the main reasons our boys got tired and less effective. The time the boys should have been resting they were playing because the home based guys were still trying to understand the system Coach Brown was running. Add Michael Eric, Talib Zanna, Keith Owoerah and Ike Ireogbu we beat uganda no question.

Shameless !!.. useless country !!…and am hearing that the sport ministry have gifted Hajia Buhari cup a whopping N50k when DTigers are in tartars , when the olympic team was an eyesore!!!… shameless country , shameless leadership!!… going to a major tournament without your best !!..the olympic team could have lift this cup hands down !!..what an embarrassment!!

  • Not a shock really. The Ugandan domestic league plays regularly ours has not functioned since 2017. Our local boys have not played a competitive game since 2017 and played against professional players.

It was shocking that we even won a single game
