2022 WCQ: Super Eagles Must Be Wary Of Cape Verde -Rufai

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has warned the Super Eagles to be cautious in the final Group C game of the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde.

Recall that Nigeria edged the Lone Star of Liberia 2-0 on Saturday to maintain their grip at the top of the table on 12 points while Cape Verde defeated the Central Africa Republic (CAR) 2-1 to remain second on 10 points.

Both teams will clash on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos in a must win game for the Cape Verdian. A draw for the Super Eagles will be enough to qualify the team for the final knockout stages.

However, in a chat with Completesports.com, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nation winner, said that the Super Eagles must not give Cape Verde any room to initiate their attack.

He noted that that Nigeria must be wary of Cape Verde’s threat in the final group game.

“I am delighted that the Super Eagles defeated Liberia to pick the maximum point. However, the big task will be against a Cape Verde side that is also hoping to qualify for the World Cup.

” At this point, the stakes are high and I want the Super Eagles players and Gernot Rohr to be wary of their threat. We must me be cautious and break them down as quickly as possible.”

I agree with you Dodo Mayana. If I were the coach I will be very cautious and defensive minded. I will play two defensive midfielders Ndidi and Onyeka to have a solid base to manage the game. Since they need a win they will come out to attack then we can always hit them on the break with Osimhen pace. We will score bags of goals if we can effectively use this approach. It also shows that we do not underrate them. All we need is the qualifications ticket.

Eagles will use them for lunch

IF EVENTUALLY WE MADE IT FROM GROUP STAGE,WE ARE NOT READY TO FACE ANY TOP TEAM IN NEXT PLAY-OFF WITH THIS PLAYING ATTITUDE.

    • If they played like they played yesterday, Cape Verde will win. The Super Eagles aren’t playing to their potential and that’s really worrisome. They took the match yesterday too easy and casual. Thank God they won but you don’t try that with a very hungry team like Cape Verde or a big African team… In the next round

  • Capevard will open up since they know they need maximum three points. That should afford Nigeria striker opportunities to torment their defense.

However will must not allow them to score first. If they do, they will park bus and frustration could set in easily for Nigeria that could lead to another goal on a counter attack.

  • Before Liberia, the prophets of doom said we should be wary of Liberia. Now that we have won Liberia they are now saying we should be careful about Cape Verde. They will continue saying “be careful of this and that” until we the World Cup
