2022 World Cup: Oliseh Lauds ‘Unbelievable’ Saudi Arabia’s Win Against Argentina

FIFA’s technical expert, Sunday Oliseh has showered encomium on Saudi Arabia following the Falcons remarkable 2-1 victory against Argentina on TueFIFA’ssday.

The Asians produced one of the stunning upsets in World Cup history by rallying back to beat the two time champions at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.

Lionel Messi gave Argentina the lead from the spot on 10 minutes via a controversial penalty.

Saleh Al-Shehri levelled for Saudi Arabia just three minutes after the break.

The goal encouraged the Saudis to pour forward and they netted winning goal through Salem Al-Dawsari in the 53rd minute.

“Unbelievable but true and totally deserved! Saudi Arabia tactically, physically and technically outclassed Argentina. Compact, shifting, clairvoyant when in possession and skillful. For me? This is d best Saudi Arabian team I ever saw play!, Oliseh wrote on his Twitter handle.

To you it’s a surprise but to me I am not because I knew the tactical sagacity of Herve Renaud. He did for Zambia.

An army of sheep led by a Lion will defeat an army of LIONS led a Sheep.

A very good [email protected] does not that but rather always prefer a group of excellent players led by a black market coach

How on earth will a right-thinking nation hire a peseiro over Ernesto valverde,Cocu and Laurent blanc? We reason from our arses in this country

He wasn’t into parting away with his salary. And don’t want to betrayed like they did to oliseh. It was hi agent that informed babangida back then that the NFG was planning on getting rid of oliseh. So he was able to smell the coffee

Excellent comment @ coache. Nigeria has always had excellent players coached by a black market coach

Thanks my brother. On a lighter mood Rohr, started calling our players, they are not world class. Did Saudi Arabia have World Class player? Yet they defeated Argentina? Rohr became a scam towards the end of his rein.

I remember that some fans lncluding myself suggested Renard on this platform when Nigeria was seeking for a coach but as usual BFF would not listen to the fans but rather will look for compromising coaches where they can make their money

What is impressive about Renaud is that he took a risk by playing a high defensive line to stop Messi from orchestrating the game in midfield. He then marked the Argentinian wingers so they could not freely operate from the wings.

That is an innovative tactic when you play against a team with a strong passing and movement game. Compare that to what Peseiro did against Portugal, who are similar in style to Argentina. He allowed the Portuguese midfield to operate with impunity, and his midfield selection of Iwobi, and Ndidi with Aribo as second striker was a joke against a side with 4 midfielders that pass and move in midfield.

Did Nigeria use offside traps to stifle space? No, they allowed the Portuguese all the time and space to play passes. Besides our tactical genius coach did not even pick midfield players to start that could stifle the Portuguese midfield. Instead of midfield tacklers, we had Iwobi (who tried) and Aribo who was not even sure whether he was playing in attack or midfield.

If our coach was not Portuguese I could have forgiven him by saying it was ignorance about the Portuguese team, but instead, it looks like incompetence or even worse sabotage as some are whispering.

    • There is nothing innovative about keeping a high line. It is as old as time in football. In fact, Bulgaria used it against the Super Eagles in the 1994 world cup which cost them Yekini’s seminal goal.

Please, don’t compare a friendly match against a competitive match. As bad as the Super Eagles have been lately, I doubt they’ll play that badly against Portugal in a competitive fixture.

You mentioned our midfield having non-“tackling” Iwobi and Aribo but you conveniently omitted Ndidi. Should I put that down to oversight?

The Portuguese exploited lapses in our fullbacks and they stretched the pitch to deliver a variety of venomous high and low crosses into delicate Nigerian areas. They had well polished passing routines and their movements were mordant, incisive and unpredictable which visibly caused Nigeria problems.

The Super Eagles did try to get into their own routine but their deliveries lacked prerequisite quality to trouble the Portuguese. Paul Onuachu surprisingly provided fluidity and movements when he came in but Chukwueze elected to shoot from the wings with the Genk giant in a more favourable position.

The Super Eagles sat back, soaking so much pressure which allowed the Portuguese to flourish with their flamboyance on the ball. It made the Super Eagles look third rate and it was painful watch your team being played around like a pitiful ragdoll.

And then after the penalty debacle in which an obdurate Emmanuel Dennis chose to take and subsequently miss the kick, the Not-So-Super Eagles collapsed like sand castle to concede 2 more late goals, finally nailing their fall from grace to grass in 2022: a year of Afcon failure, world cup qualification failure and now friendly match failure (a hattrick of failures for an outfit that has become anything but super).

Herve Reynard! Herve Reynard!! Herve Reynard!!!…..

That’s how you guys were singing BALMEDI, today that dude is history….

If I may ask, can your corrupt NFF afford his monthly salary?

Remember, NFF are still paying ROHR….. If they fire pisero now without paying him off, that means they’ll be paying two coaches for free…..

You guys better use your tongue to count your teeth.

Things aren’t working in Nigeria at all.

We better have patience else the latter damage would be worst than the beginning.

We might end up paying two coaches for free……
