2023 AFCONQ: Akwa Ibom State Assures Super Eagles Of Full Support Ahead São Tomé Clash

Governor of Akwa Ibom state Pastor Umo Eno has assured players of the Super Eagles all the necessary support, ahead of Sunday’s 2023 AFCON qualifier against São Tomé and Principe.

The Eagles will host São Tomé in their final Group A game inside the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo.

While the Eagles have already booked their ticket to next year’s tournament, São Tomé have been eliminated.

Speaking at a reception held for members of the Eagles, coaching crew and NFF officials, Governor Eno, said:“We like to welcome you very warmly to our state as a matter of fact this is one of the beauty of football, it brings all of us together as Nigerians and also bring all of our players from different clubs and then they put on the Nigerian jersey.

“How I wish all of us politician could learn from what you guys are doing, looking forward to flying the Nigerian flag even though you come from different clubs, it’s such a warm thing to see.

“I like to congratulate you for making it to the national team and we just came to say welcome to Akwa Ibom, thanks to the NFF and everyone who has made this happen.

“Choosing Akwa Ibom we don’t take it for granted, I decided to give it the attention it deserves, to come personally and welcome you, check how you’re doing, see what we can do to ensure that you are in a right state of mind to win the match on Sunday and also ensure that we work with you by providing the necessary support for you to go ahead and also win other matches for the World Cup qualifiers.”

Assistant captain of the Eagles William Troost-Ekong gave word of appreciation to the governor for his continued support.

He said the Eagles look forward to playing the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Uyo and hopefully make everyone proud.

On his part NFF Deputy General Secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme praised the governor, stating that despite how things are in the country he still accepted to host the Super Eagles.
