Sierra Leone defender Osman Kakay says he and his teammates are in high spirit ahead of Thursday’s 2023 AFCON qualifiers against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Abuja.
The Leone Stars and the Eagles will kickoff their 2023 qualifying campaign inside the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja.
The Eagles would be looking for a first competitive win against the Leone Stars since October 2008.

For the West African football minnows, they would be targeting a first win against the Eagles since April 2001.
Recall the last time both teams clashed, the Leone Stars came from 4-0 down to draw 4-4 in Benin City before the reverse fixture in Freetown ended goalless.
And speaking ahead of Thursday’s game Kakay, in a short video published on Sierra Leone FA’s Twitter handle, said:”The boys are in good spirit, we are preparing for the games against Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau. There’s been talks going round misrepresenting what I’ve said but I’m a professional footballer I respect every opponent I play against.”
The 24-year-old Queens Park Rangers defender said he hopes they are able to make their fans back home what they want.
“Hopefully me and the team can go out there and put our hearts on the line for Sierra Leone and give the fans back home what they want,” Kakay added.
