2023 U-20 W/Cup: Flying Eagles Targeting More Upsets –NFF Delegation Leader, Inuwa

After dumping host Argentina from the ongoing 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, the Flying Eagles are aiming to create their history by going for more upsets, NFF’s leader of the delegation, Alhaji Sharu Ahlan Inuwa, has exclusively told Completesports.com.

Speaking with Completesports.com after the 2-0 win against one of the tournament’s title favourites Argentina, Alhaji Inuwa, an NFF Executive Committee member said the players’ confidence level has improved after reaching the quarterfinals against all odds, adding that the plan is to cause more upsets to the final.

“The boys told me they want to create their history by going one step more than the previous Flying Eagles reached. Twice Nigeria reached the final and lost but this time creating their history means winning the title. It will be one game at a time till we get there.”

Inuwa added: “We shall shepherd the boys cautiously to ensure that they don’t become complacent after beating six-time winners and host, Argentina. There are bigger and tougher battles ahead, and we shall play every team in the same way we played Argentina and Italy. We are not going to be carried away by the little progress we have made.

“Beating Argentina was not easy, the boys played to Coach Ladan Bosso’s instructions and Allah helped us to do the rest. Nobody excepted that the players and their coaches would beat Argentina. The boys were very impressive and we appreciated them.

“By the grace of God, we hope to keep the momentum and see if we can win the cup. Winning the title is our ultimate aim and if it is Allah’s wish we shall return with the trophy,” Inuwa who is also the chairman of Kano State Football Association stated.

The Flying Eagles will face the Young Taegeuk Warriors of the Korea Republic in the quarter-finals on Sunday June 4 at the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero.
