2026 WCQ: Nigerian-Born Benin Republic Striker Aiyegun Joins Lorient

Cheetahs of Benin Republic striker Tosin Aiyegun has joined Ligue 1 club Lorient from Swiss club FC Zurich.

Lorient announced Aiyegun’s signing on their website.

The deal is reported to be worth €4m.

“FC Lorient is pleased to announce today the arrival of Aiyegun Tosin (25), FC Zurich striker, for the next four seasons.

“Born in Lagos, Nigeria and with dual Nigerian-Beninese nationality, Aiyegun Tosin began his professional career in Latvia with the club FK Ventspils (whose city is also twinned with Lorient).

“After three full seasons in the Latvian first division, 89 games (35 goals, 20 assists) and a Latvian Cup to his credit, the 25-year-old striker joined the ranks of FC Zurich in the summer of 2019.

“In four seasons, he has passed the 100-game mark with the Zurich club. His passage is notably marked by a title of Swiss Champion (21/22), and successive participations last season in qualifying for the Champions League and then in the Europa League campaign of his club.“

Aiyegun was born in Nigeria to a Nigerian father and Beninese mother.

He was called up to the Benin national team for a set of friendlies in March 2022.

He debuted with Benin in a 4–0 friendly win over Liberia on 24 March 2022, scoring a goal in his debut.

He has scored three goals in nine appearances for the Benin Republic national team.
Also, Aiyegun is expected to be in action for Benin Republic when they face the Super Eagles in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Something tells me this guy whom Gernot Rohr ignored to cap when he bursted onto the scene a few years back will hurt us when we meet… This Aiyegun guy is no pushover at all and parading the kind of weak defenders we also have with the likes of Ekong leading the charge… this guy can rub mud on the faces of our average defenders, this Aiyegun guy is a legit attacker and a proven goalscorer who must have chosen to pitch his tent with Benin just like Razak did out of frustration of waiting for Nigeria forever while the likes of Ahmed Musa continue to turn our national team into political party…

South Africa has told us they will pick the world cup ticket and I won’t be surprised because what we have these days is a bunch of overhyped rich players in the national team who do not have the DNA and mentality of champions in them. With the attitude of invincibility and arrogance with Nigerians and the often-too-familiar wonginess and chaotic way we plan and execute poor preparedness in anything about our national life especially football matters… I will keep my fingers crossed if the current players and managers of our national team can prove serious Naija football fans wrong!

      Hahahaha….don’t mind them.

These are the same ones who nearly vomited their kidneys crying for the call up of Junior Ajayi, Olanrewaju Kayode, Isaac Success, Simon Nwankwo, Peter Olayinka, Stephen Odey etc…..today Aiyegun gets signed to the French Ligue 1 and they have suddenly realized he is a proper striker…..LMAOoo.

Only God knows how many CFs Rohr should have been inviting to the SE at a time.

Witchcraft is when someone accuses his neigbour of raising dust when he has only just fallen into a pool of water.

Coach Rohr using his DW influence to influence the signing of Benin players. Lorient will be relegated if they follow this man.

      Cheap liar…!

Lorient is not owned by DW group.

Aiyegun is not managed by DW group.

The deal that took Tosin to Lorient was not brokered by DW group.

I wonder how Rohr and DW group got involved in this matter.

All of a sudden Lorient will get relegated just because they signed a striker who has averaged nearly 1 goal contribution in every 2 games for both club and country simply because Rohr is his national team’s coach….LMAOoo

      Mumu talk as always.

Hatred not only poisons the mind, it gradually turns one into a mental retard.

  • All I am saying is thank God Rohr is not coach of Togo because if he was. He would have poached Orban, with this Useless NFF we have currently dragging their feet around this boy.
