5 Dangerous Beninese Squirrels Eagles Must Stop In Uyo

Ahead of Wednesday’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Squirrels of Benin Republic, Completesports.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU, highlights five key players of the visitors that Gernot Rohr’s men should strive to slow down while fighting to secure a home win on the matchday-one of Group L.

STEPHANE SESSEGNON

Sessegnon (pictured above) – the skipper of the Squirrels, is the most experienced player in the team. The 35-year-old plays for Turkish club club Gençlerbirliği is an utility asset as he can play as a forward, a winger and offensive midfield playmaker.

The former Sunderland and West Brom player is lightning quick and is a match winner. He also has great dribbling skills and a good shot.

Mickael Pote

MICKAEL POTE

The 35-year-old striker who plays for Turkish club BB Erzurumspor was eligible to represent the Ivory Coast, due to his father’s roots. Instead, he chose to play for Benin, his mother’s country. He has scored 10 goals in 56 appearances for the Squirrels.

Pote who is one of the key members of the team, was on target in the Squirrels’ 2-2 draw in an international friendly against Zambia last month.

Steve Mounie

STEVE MOUNIE

One of the high profile players in the team. Steve Mounie plays for Sky Bet Championship club, Huddersfield. The 25-year-old striker has scored seven times in 23 games for the Squirrels.
He bagged the first goal in the 2-2 draw with Zambia in October.

Jodel Dossou

JODEL DOSSOU

The talented midfielder is one the key players for the Squirrels. The TSV Hartberg of Austria star pace will also be a threat to the Super Eagles. His last goal for the Squirrels came in the 2-1 friendly defeat to the Elephants of Cote d’l voire in September.

Cebio Soukou

CEBIO SOUKOU

Cebio Soukou, who was born in Germany to Beninese parents plays as a midfielder for German club, Arminia Bielefeld. He made his debut for the Squirrels on March 24, 2019 against Togo and has been capped eight times by his country.
