5 Takeaways From Super Eagles’ 2-1 Win Over Cape Verde In Mindelo

5 Takeaways From Super Eagles’ 2-1 Win Over Cape Verde In Mindelo

Nigeria’s Super Eagles, on Tuesday, September 7 2021, came from a goal down to defeat Cape Verde 2-1 in a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifier at the Estadio Municipal Aderito Sena in Mindelo. And they did it without the core of the players that prosecuted 2-0 win over Liberia the previous week.

Completesports.com’s Augustine Akhilomen highlights five remarking things learnt from the Eagles’ showing that made the victory memorable.

Ejuke Deserves More Playing Time In Nigeria’s Colours

Chidera Ejuke was a class act as he dazzled through the flank with ease, causing so much nightmare for the Cape Verde defenders. His energy and ability to track back in order to help the defence showed why he should be considered for more game time for the Super Eagles. His contributions in the team’s victory against the Blue Sharks will never be forgotten in a hurry.

Osimhen Still Reliable Super Eagles Goal Poacher

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen,  was on his best mettle as he was in the right place, at the right time to score from a defensive error between two Cape Verde players. Though he had handful of chances, but the few times he had the chance to test the Cape Verdean goalkeeper, Osimhen didn’t disappoint.

Okoye Needs Serious Competition For Goalie Starting Shirt

Maduka Okoye may have done well to prevent further goals from the Eagles’ hosts, but his inability to cover his posts well resulted to Cape Verde’s shock lead in the 18th minute. Perhaps, he needs a stiffer competition for his position in order to put him on his toes in subsequent games.

Resourceful Michael, Bonke Partnership In Midfield

Playing for the first time in the absence of some regular players such as Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo in the heart of the midfield, the duo of Kingsley Michael and Innocent Bonke showed some sense of understanding and pushed the attack in the  few times they had the opportunities. No doubt, with more game time, they could form a formidable partnership for the Super Eagles in future.

Shehu Abdulahi, Simon Moses Offered Little

Both Moses Simon and Shehu Abdullahi had one of their worst games in the colours of the Super Eagles as they made little or no impact against Cape Verde. They were more like ‘passengers’ and it was not surprising that Simon was substituted in the 73rd minute for Henry Onyekuru.

That Ejuke guy is very good. But he tends to overdo things and sometimes play to gallery. Modern football has grown beyond that. Kudos to the team though for securing the maximum points.

  • Macaulay Edivberhe 3 years ago

    Notes:

Moses Simon is surplus to requirement in Super Eagles shirt. It goes to show that the coach of the Nigeria national team lack the capacity to handle our national team. I can’t field Moses Simon in a street match. Also, the only goal keeper we have is Francis Ozoho, the rest have no business with Super Eagles.

I wonder why the coach will leave ineffective players on the field till 73th of match. Shehu Abdulahi and Moses Simon a case study.

Well said brother looking at the highlights again maduka okoye is still a rookie goalkeeper imagine super eagles in the final stage of the qualifying series and such mistakes can cost us dearly. ..even a cape verdien friend was adamant that only one or two chances yesterday they would have scored atleast one more goal bcos our goalkeeper lacks composure…

    • Have said it here before that shehu has never impress me and he is not SE materia, we need stop all this quota system of a thing, shehu is definitely not upto standard.

    • those that are supporting the present Super Eagle coaching team won’t understand now buy will understand tomorrow.

Both Nations Cup and World cup is very close.

I’m looking forward to read their comments after the two competitions.

      • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Nations cup and World cup is close….LMAOOoo….Please who is the person bringing the Nations cup and World cup close to you….? Did you have hope of playing in even Nations cup under your guadiolas….when Nations cup was always Far…? LMAOOOoo. There was a time when we had no hope of qualifying for 2017 AFCON even when we had 3 games left to play….LMAOOOo. Today we have 4 games left in the current qualifiers and we are already looking like having 1 leg in the next phase….and it is paining you that we are supporting the team…? LMAOOOo……See enemy of progress o….LMAOOOo

Nations cup and World cup is close because someone is doing his job. I dont know why our support for the team is paining you….LMAOOooo

Feel free to keep your mouth shut till nations cup and world cup. Rohr has silenced you and your likes for the time being…..LMAOOoo…..see the peace and tranquility we are enjoying at the moment. All those noise makers and those who were praying for a loss vs cape verde have suddenly lost their voices….LMAOOoo….no wonder our support is paining them….LMAOoo. We will have some peace and quietness at least till January 2022 or till when we play a draw again…..LMAOOoo

  • But why are some of you like this. This Simeon didn’t do badly in that game bar the first half he was superb in the second half even in the first match in Lagos he was one of our best on that day. So cos he had a bad game in one match he suddenly become bad as u said. U mean the coach in his club where he was just voted player of the month lack the capacity like our national team coach too? If u don’t have meaningful thing to say keep your stinking mouth shut

    • @tayo you just spoke sense and wisdom. In the first game Moses did a great job. In this second match , he was only bad with his final crosses.. football is like that. Even Ronaldo and Messi have off days. I hope nigerians will learn.

  • Ikeben 3 years ago

Even though Shehu Abdulahi struggled in the game but yet fans fail to remember that he created the first chance of the game. The juicy cut back he gave to Musa, which the captain balooned away. He easily would have gotten an Assist if we had regulars like Iwobi or Kalu on that pass. So my take, even if he is not in our first 11, or second 11, his versatility will still keep him as ready option when the need arises.

I also want to say that, fans also fail to praise Collins for been one of the stand out performance in this game. His dashing run with Ejuke was a joy to watching. He created the first goal which Osimhen scored, by laying a solid cross that confused the CV defenders. Even against Liberia his throwing also lead to our second goal. Because he is regularly critisized, so do we now turn a blind eye when he performs well. For me he is in contention for the Man of the match.

Many want to label player a good permanently and another one bad permanently. But it doesn’t work that way in real life. Moses who was one of the best performers against Liberia but had a bad day yesterday and everyone want to condemn him totally.

Thank God our coach knows better. Our 2 best wingers last season in Europe was Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze and one bad day in the office will not be enough to discard Simon. Now the competition among the wingers is getting stronger which is what we want. My take is from Samuel, Kalu, Moses, Henry and Ejuke we have enough good wingers to choose the most inform and fittest for any given match.

    • pompei 3 years ago

      Ikeben, good morning sir.
Seems you just woke up from sleep, lol. Otherwise, you would know that the forum was agog yesterday, as forumites heaped praises on Collins.
Collins was awesome against CV. The lad’s overlapping runs reminded me of Celestine Babayaro and Ifeanyi Udeze. He just kept bombing forward, delivering sweet crosses into the box. His throw-ins were also a big problem for the CV defense. And at the back, the guy was solid.
I hope he is consistent with that performance level. With him, Sanusi and hopefully Calvin Bassey when he joins the SE, Rohr has got some nice options.

  • pompei 3 years ago

    Ejuke, EBE-ANO PLAYER!
A performance that should convince even the most stubborn DOUBTING THOMAS. He just needs to be more productive. More goals and assists. A great talent indeed!
As for Okoye, I like the boy’s attitude and commitment. Unfortunately, attitude and commitment is not enough. You have to possess what it takes to be Nigeria’s numero uno to qualify to be in goal for Nigeria. To be beaten at your near post like that is poor at this level of football. Okoye is very fit physically, agile and is a decent goalie. His confidence level is where I feel there is a little problem. He gets a little jittery in important matches, such as yesterday, and given his age, I can understand. I agree with the idea that he needs help to boost his performance levels and confidence.

  • Larry 3 years ago

Your criticism of Moses and Abdullahi shows your lack of understanding of the game. Understandly, they both were not at their best in the first half but they played really well in the second half.
You praised bonke/kingsley partnership when it was obvious that our opponent outran the midfield with ease. Of course, It’s just a game of two different halves for some the player, Ejuke did really well in the first half but was matked-out in the second half, Kingsley showed better composure and awareness in the second half, Simon and Abdullah did well in the second half.
Overall, Awaziem and Collins are SE best players in that game.
Okoye, Omeruo, Musa and Bonke need to step-up.

  • JimmyBall 3 years ago

Can we now agree that Maduka Okoye playing for Sparta Rotterdam does not really translate to him being good enough to man our post? @Dr.Drey called me a hater and racist here several times for being objective enough to state the obvious… can we now see that there is no sane reason in the world for our coach to continue to start him ahead of Uzoho who has world cup experience? Uzoho all of a sudden after injury against Brazil would become number 2. with coach Rohr shoving Maduka forward ahead of Uzoho… strangely saying the young man is now his first choice even before he has done anything real to merit that proclamation and annointing… MADUKA Okoye should not even be in Super Eagles for now… I rate Akpeyi and Uzoho ahead of him and somehow the likes of Dele Alampasu just got driven from national team with all his talent… I would say we have lots of goal keepers in the league far better than Maduka… I like him as a person but he is flatly not a national team goalie yet… With all the trainings he had in Duesseldorf and now Rotterdam and he is still the way he is shows he is not just up to the cut… With him in goal we will lose in tournaments for massive goal keeping errors… Goalkeeping is 85% pure talent and only 15% training… If Alloy Agu and Rohr continue with Maduka it’s a clear case of bias and favoritism… Truth stares is in the face… the national team has done Maduka a lot of help, he is now exposed and should be allowed to improve before even getting callups again… the quality of goal keeping in Super Eagles has never droped to the level of Maduka Okoye since I started watching Nigeria Senior National Team…

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hehehehehe…..they all said the same things about Vincent Enyeama when we were going to 2004 AFCON… Infact some of them said we were going there without a goalkeeper…they said Rotimi Sunday was better, Sam Okoye was better, this was better, that was better……only for Vincent to emerge as goalkeeper of the tournament. Today Vincent is regarded as the greatest to come out of Nigeria.

These are the same people who forced Uzoho out of our goal posts just because of an error against Seychelles and Akpeyi out because he conceded a free kick to a free kick specialist like Riyad Mahrez.

Now it is Alampasu who hasn’t kept 10 league matches in over 3 seasons and isn’t even 1st choice in Latvia yet that is better than last season’s goalkeeper of the season in Netherlands. The Alampasu of 8 years ago is now the saviour who would never conceed goals in a SE shirt.

Rohr should have retained Uzoho in goal for the one year he was undergoing rehabilitation….. LMAOOO. Maybe Uzoho too was half German when the same Rohr dropped a far more experienced Akpeyi for him.

Thank God some people are nowhere near our national team.

When the coaches feel the need for a change of guard, they will implement the necessary changes….but for now, Okoye is their choice. People who know nothing about goalkeeping or team management should just keep their mouths shut and watch.

      • Coachie 3 years ago

JimmyBall, you like to dey spoil your comments midway sha. How can you bring Dele Alampasu into this matter for Christ’s sake? How many matches the young man don play since he kept post at the U-17/U-20 world cups. I really bow for you oh. Why #sentiments dey always overshadow #reality for where you dey nah. If you had mentioned the guy who just played 3 matches in the Isreali league e for even make sense small to engage in some fact-base discourse.
        Baba, you need change oh.
        Bless Up

        • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hehehehe…the Dele Almapasu that is supposed to be our saviour is currently clubless now after not being able to tie down a place in Latvian league. 6 league games, 2 cup games and 2 Europa qualifying games was all the keeper he last saw 8 years ago could muster in 2 seasons. If he was that super Ventspils wouldnt let him go without offering him a new contract.

Meanwhile Okoye was voted among the best in a reputable league like the dutch league last season. If we cant start judging our goalkeepers first from their performances and achievements at their various clubs, I wonder where we should start first. When Okoye conceded 4 goals in the league about 4 weeks ago he was first to come and broadcast it here….but Uzoho conceded 4 goals 2 weeks ago and he has kept mute…..LMAOOOoo.

Ask him when last he watched Alampasu keep goal for a team, im sure he himself cannot remember…..LMAOoooo

Best goalkeeper in Holland is not good enough for SE, best goalkeeper in CAF champions league is not good enough for SE…The ones who are good enough are clubless goalkeepers and and the ones in his many talent league like John Nobel….LMAOOo.

They should hands off the boy Maduka, he needs these games and needs to make these mistakes to get to where we want him to be. Enyeama was worse than Maduka when he first started….always flapping at crosses and dropping balls at the feet of opponents….but today he is the greatest we ever had. Or is it Alloy Agu that signed Okoye from dusseldorf to Sparta…? Is it Rohr that promoted him from Sparta B to 1st choice in the senior team…?

People who know nothing about goalkeeping should hands of our national team goalkeepers. Each will have his turn and have enough opportunities to stake a claim to the no 1 shirt. Uzoho produced a howler vs Lesotho too which the referee incorrectly ruled out to save his blushes, should we because of that also feed him to the lions too…??? LMAOOooo

    • If you are talking about the Super Eagles, you need to be mentioning players who are actually active.

Goalkeepers Adebayo Adeleye (Nigeria U17 2017) and Sebastian Osigwe are way ahead of Dele. Dele need to find a club and get some stability. He has not done anything noteworthy for 8 years. We need to be current.

What Nigeria also needs is proper competition between Okoye and Uzoho. No favourites. They can push each other to greater heights over the next 10 to 15 years. Let the likes of Akpeyi, Adeleye and Osigwe battle for the number 3 position.

Looking forward in the current climate, every position needs at least 5 players vying for a place. The Covid situation with travel and positive/negative tests, fitness, form have shown us that having two or even three players per position is not enough. We need 5 in case a player is suddenly not available.

We have the players to choose from, but it must be on merit. Who is in form, who is doing well, who is available, who is ready to travel.

Lastly we need consistency. In the last 3 squads we have called up players only to drop them without even testing them and somebody else called up in their place. This is true for Vincent Onovo, Izuchukwu Anthony, John Noble, Joshua Oluwayemi and a host of others. In the meantime we struggle to raise a full team to prosecute World cup qualifiers. The game against Cape Verde we had 8 on the bench of which 2 were goalkeepers. This is a problem of consistency in callup and a non merit based squad choice. We see a list announced by the NFF and then not quite 24 hours later we see names not on the list turning up in camp. We saw this with Tobias Lawal, with Kevin Akpoguma and this time with Adekunle Adeleke at the expense of others called up previously

    • Mercy 3 years ago

Kingsley Michael benefited the most from this last invitation. Firstly, his club decided to keep him as against sending him on loan which has been the case in previous seasons. Imagine this same player do not play much game in serie b last season though injury constitute alot to the few number of he played. Secondly, after the SE list was released, his club gave him his first ever serie A debut against atalanta. Lastly, he make his SE debut on Tuesday. How quickly as his destiny turn around?

  • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Dr.Drey… I am not saying Alampasu be brought back, read me well. The thing is, is he talented? The answer is yes… Why was Maduka specifically picked to be helped, if it can be done for Maduka, then same can be done for anyone else. Whether we like it or not… National teams gives exposures that are rare and clubs begin to take you serious… Why are we lying to ourselves… Vincent Enyeama already proved his mettle in 2002 World Cup. Maduka continues to create a situation where every ball into the 18yard box makes one cringe with momentary hypertension… Nigeria deserves better. I don’t want to believe if NFF and Alloy Agu are fair they won’t find a solid goal keeper in the league… We must not attribute playing abroad always as the factor that tells how good every player is… it’s not in all departments. We have often ignored very good goal keepers in the league… Honestly brother Drey, I am very disappointed in one like you that you continue to have soft spot for Okoye… If we continue dressing a lie in what is obvious, one day, it will get exposed in public… Shehu, Musa, Moses Simon need to make way from that team… I supported Paul Onuachu throughout last season but if Moffi and Awoniyi do better this season and Confound all doubters again… beyond all doubts, I will pull off Onuachu from that team… If Ejaria is cleared, Rohr should throw him in by next round of matches… I am looking automatically promoting Ejuke to that team… however he must cut unnecessary dribbles and avoid doing too much to impress, he has already impressed… Kingsley Michael needs to stay, Bonke should be given a couple more games… I was ok with his work even though people want him to be fancy… I saw what Rohr saw after the match with him, people need to understand football it’s a mix of finesse atimes and grit at other times… Moffi needs to perfect his turnings in vital areas… Onyekuru is good but I am not sold on his tenacity and efficiency he had a chance where his direct shot on goal was weak yesterday just like he did coming on against Algeria in Afcon 2019, he and Musa should have done better with those efforts and force the goal keeper to make decent saves… I need to observe Emmanuel Dennis in EPL this season but I think he and Chukwueze should eventually get the right flank… if Lookman joins Super Eagles that left flank is for him and Samuel Kalu (but Kalu needs to show he can stay fit with his fainting and injury issues) I like Nwakali but he will need to convince more at Huesca… I am watching his games… He is doing good so far… these are some of my thoughts for now. Awoniyi will eventually push in this season… he punished Kevin Akpoguma in their last league match-up with a sublimely intelligent goal… Let’s create fair competition in Super Eagles and banish politics of invitation regardless on any players status… I have had enough of Shehu, though he did ok yesterday. We need people who can deliver on serious ball business in the preps to next Afcon and World cup.

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

“…I rate Akpeyi and Uzoho ahead of him and somehow the likes of Dele Alampasu just got driven from national team with all his talent….”

Pls tell us the person who drove Alampasu out of the national team…?

You now root for the likes of Moffi, Awoniyi etc….LMAOOOO…pls is your rooting for them not based on how they are now performing at their various clubs..? So on what basis are you rooting for Alampasu to be “helped”….??? LMAOOoo.
Have you forgotten that this same Alampasu was already in the SE since Oliseh’s tenure…? it was the same Rohr who eventually gave alampasu his debut in 2017. Since 2017 what has Alampasu gone on to do for himself…how has Alampasu “helped” himself…???

From 2017 till date…11 MATCHES IN ALL COMPETITIONS for 4 solid years…..and currently without a club….is that the kind of player you use the national team to help…??? Maduka Okoye was playing week in week out as a teenager in Fortuna B…he wasnt idle or strapped to the bench…he was averaging over 20 games every season for the B side and being named on the bench on occasions for the A team. He only got a few minutes of gametime vs Brazil and he took his destiny in his own hands from then on. He quit Fortuna who weren’t ready to promote him for a club outside his homeland. HE WORKED HARD from being a Sparta B keeper in the twede division (Dutch 3rd division) to earning promotion to the Sparta Main team. He WORKED EVEN HARDER to not just be a Sparta A player but to snatch the no 1 gloves. The boy EARNED his place…..BOTH AT CLUB AND AT NATIONAL TEAM LEVEL. He wasnt “HELPED”. HE WORKED HIS DAMN ASS OFF TO GET TO THE TOP. None of Rohr or Agu were there to help him become best goalkeeper in his club.

So Flush that your theory of “……Maduka was specifically picked to be helped….” down the soakaway. Heaven only helps those who help themselves.

Alampasu has been in the fringes of the national team since the days of Keshi. He was one of the goalkeepers Keshi took to CHAN in 2014…….yet it was this same Rohr that gave him his SE debut. How else do you want him to be helped….??? What has he gone on to do for himself afterwards…? How has he helped himeself…? A goalkeeper who either has no club or isnt getting games is the one we should “help”…? At what age…? at 25…? When we have others who are winning best this, best that in their various clubs….??? LMAOOOooo.

Heaven helps those who help themselves. Dele had the opportunity to sign for Enyimba 2 seasons ago….im sure if he had done that and consistently played on the continent with a club like Enyimba, he would be the one occupying the slot of homebased goalkeeper in the SE today. You dont use the SE to help a goal keeper who isnt even getting games in the first place….not to talk of one who doesnt have a club.

I see its still the sentiments in you speaking…..and thank God once again you are nowhere near our national team. Rather than talking about Alampasu, I’ll rather focus on the likes of Adebayo who just made his debut in the Israeli top flight and Yakubu in Slovakia. When Alampasu is ready to be serious with his career, we will shift our focus back to him. But its outrightly nonsensical to think Alampasu of 8 years ago at U17 world cup is the same in 2021…..LMAOOOo…..abeg on what basis…? LMAOOoo

      • JimmyBall 3 years ago

I spoke about Alampasu in the same breath as Maduka because the latter’s fortunes changed overnight just by being involved with Super Eagles… yes agreed Maduka is having a good career progression but he isn’t a number one yet… he is being favored period. So don’t make my submission one about Alampasu alone… talent is nurtured and tended. You expected Alampasu to be number already in 2017? There was this last U-23 goal keeper Adamu Abubakar, I don’t know if he is still with Wikki Tourist like back then… That guy was damn good in that last U-23 Afcon… You mentioned the keeper in Israel… Someone that Rohr does not even seem to want to invite… they went back to Akpeyi again who appears out of sorts in that team… always looking too old for that group. Now. It is clear we don’t have a trusted goalkeeper in Maduka… he is still young though but should not be starting our games… He does not merit Super Eagles yet… I am not deceived by his complete holiday against Brazil where we played so good and conservative he was hardly really tested… I am not fooled by his Sparta Rotherdam club profile also… We must admit the truth with Maduka… fine boy but not a fine keeper yet… So @Dr.Drey admit for one that coach Rohr goofed trumpeting Maduka as number 1 even before the boy attempt to catch any better shot… hahahaha.

        • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahaha…..it was you who first mentioned Almapasu without thinking properly…..LMAOOOoo…..Now that facts and figures are being laid at your feet you want to turn it to fight out of frustration…..LMAOOOOo. If Alampasu couldnt be no 1 in 2017 despite being in the SE since 2014 under keshi, pls whose fault is it…?? Was it not same 2017 Uzoho, his teammate at U17, made his SE debut and eventually became no 1…? Or what is this one talking….LMAOOoo.

He wasnt even our no 1 at U20 level and wasnt even considered for our U23s at all….LMAOOooo….He hasnt had anything next to what can be called a decent club career and hasnt kept 20 senior games since his u17 days in 2013….LMAOOooo….. so I dont know where all these your rants and hullabaloo about Alampasu is coming from…LMAOOoo

From 2014 when Alampasu set foot in a SE camp till date, what decent career has he had for himself at clublevel…? I guess he was still carrying his FIFA U17 golden gloves all around while the likes of Uzoho, Okoye, Enaholo and the rest were grinding their assess our to have good club careers….LMAOooo. Now you are begging for him to be “helped” at the age of 25 and without club….??? LMAOOooo

Maduka’s fortune “changed overnight” by working hard. He only had as much minutes as Alampasu also had on his debut. Maduka never stopped saying he will work hard to become SE no 1 after that opportunity. Infact his 1st interview afterwards, he stated clearly that his eyes were now on the no 1 spot and he never stopped working hard. HE EARNED EVERY LUCK THAT HAS COME HIS WAY.

He quit Fortuna at the end of that same season and moved to Sparta and WORKED HIS WAY UP from B team to 1st choice goalkeeper to the point of becoming one of the best in the entire Dutch league….LMAOOOo….The last Nigerian goalkeeper to be best in his league in Europe was Enyeama.

Maduka made his own fortune. He grabbed a 20minute plus chance with both hands and legs and made his own luck out of if. It wasnt the match against brazil, where he practically did nothing but pluck crosses out of the air, that made him Sparta no 1, neither was it Rohr or Agu that awarded him the best goalkeeper award……LMAOOOo. The young boy is working hard and can only get better. Heaven favors those who work hard.

He is our no 1 now, and just like Enyeama’s early days, he is still a bit shaky in national colours….despite that, he has still managed 5 clean sheets in 9 appearances which is not in anyway a bad record for a 22 year old goalkeeper who is already 1st choice in the Dutch league….Even Enyeama didnt keep 5 clean sheets in his first 9 matches for the SE…..LMAOOOO.

Maduka’s skin colour or nationality didnt make him 1st choice in his club….maybe you know more than the coaches in that club too who promoted him from B team to A team and then to club’s first choice…..LMAOOOoo. They too must be goofing according to your football omniscience…..LMAOOoo.

Uzoho got injured for 1 year, Maduka stepped in…..how that is being favored beats imagination….LMAOOoo. Maybe Rohr should have but Uzoho in goal while he was on crutches….LMAOOo. Even at club level, when a goalkeeper has been out for that long, he has to fight his way back to 1st choice reckoning. Uzoho had a golden chance vs Lesotho and fumbled a harmless freeckick onto the feet of the opponents….lmaooo…thank God the incompetent ref canceled what was supposed to be a clean goal.

We are talking of keepers who are already winning best this and best that in their leagues and on the continent and you are taking us back to U23 goalkeeper that you’ve not heard of ever since……if he was so good why haven’t you heard of him……LMAOOOo….why hasnt any of the top clubs in the NPFL who are campaigning on the continent signed him…..LMAOOoo.

You dont need to trust Madaka….LMAOOoo..he doesnt need your trust. You dont even feature in the conversation….LMAOOoo. His coaches trust him enough to be no 1 and that’s why he is. Till when they decide otherwise…..if you like mow an entire lawn with your teeth Maduka remains our no 1….and no amount of racism-fueled hatred can pull him down…..LMAOOo…..sorry ehn

          • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Dr.Drey… Do you know that Maduka Conceded 4goals recently in Eredivisie? Bob likes conceding goals in fours… hahahaha. Alapasu had it in him to succeed Enyeama but these boys… Perhaps he has not done enough… hardwork nurtures talent… he started in Portugal but perhaps he went to sleep. But Enaholo was a fumbler in New Zealand 2015.

          • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahaha….Are you done jubilating Okoye conceded 4 goals now or I should wait a little to allow you jubilate more….?

Good….please, where were you when Uzoho, with all his world cup experience conceded 4 goals 2 weeks ago in Cyprus league to one Pafos FC like that….LMAOOoo. Or is that not the same Uzoho that you are touting as being invincible between the goal posts…? Where were you when Akpeyi conceded 3 in the CAF CL final….? Or is it John Nobel who was shipping goals in 3s in the CAF CL that we should hand our posts to…? Have the best goalkeepers in the world not conceded 4 goals in their careers before…? Has it stopped them from fulfilling their potentials…?

Was Uzoho a perfect GK when he also started out…? Okoye has not even conceded the sort of howlers Uzoho conceded vs Seychelles and Libya yet. Even Enyeama was king of howlers in his early days. I can never forget the ones vs Ethiopia and Malawi in 2004 AFCON qualifiers in Abuja, not to forget his disastrous display vs Brazil misjudging crosses here and there and gifting Adriano the 3rd goal by dropping the ball at his feet…..LMAOooo. He repeated same thing vs Venezuela when we played them in London later that same year too. The same Enyeama is the one we all now revere today. If Christian Chukwu had ignored the potential in the boy and dropped him before 2004 AFCON just as the press were clamoring for back then, he wouldnt have gone on to emerge the best keeper at that AFCON and we wouldnt have had Enyeama today…and in truth, the likes of Chijioke Ejiogu and Sam Okoye were miles ahead of Enyeama back then….miles ahead. But who ended up becoming a goalkeeping legend…?

At the moment, there isnt even any Nigerian goalkeeper anybody can claim to be miles ahead of Okoye yet. Any new goalkeeper that will come in now will treat us to his own round of learning process in a national team shirt. Every young goalkeeper’s first 10 caps at any level is always neither here nor there. Only after a while do they settle down and forge the perfect understanding then need to forge with their CONSISTENT defense line.

Okoye conceded 4 goals on his debut for Sparta last season but went ahead to become the best in the Eredivisie. So dont start rejoicing yet. Conceding 4 goals in a match means nothing for a goalkeeper who has got quality and potentials.

If Rohr did not make this boy the 1st choice as he did in that same season when he emerged as BEST goalkeeper in the Eredivisie you will be the ringleader of “ranters” here writing us epistles as to how the best goalkeeper in a league is not our no 1.

            Leave these boys alone…!

Dont go telling people the Best Goalkeeper in the Eredivisie is not national team material o…..LMAOOOo….dem fit wipe you dirty igbaju wey go damage something for your body o.

I guess Okoye was also “favored” by the colour of his skin and his half-germaness by those who elected him as the BEST GOALKEEPER IN THE EREDIVISIE……..LMAOOooo. Infact it must have been Rohr and Alloy Agu that bribed them to name him the best in their league…..LMAOOooo

@Dr.Drey… I have been busy that’s why I did not reply you since. You have gone to create another profile alias again… as @Unique coming here to hail yourself as man with facts. You still have not been able to prove where Victor Ikpeba played our friendlies against Sweden and Colombia in 1994.

Maduka Okoye never won Eredivisie goal keeper of the year for 2020/2021 season… go and check. What he was voted for was the best player on his team Sparta Rotterdam for 2020/2021… he came 8th postition in the award for keeper of the season in Holland. If not for what issues Andre Onana had… you want to compare Maduka Okoye to him?

Get your facts right… he was never voted Eredivisie best goal keeper for last season… I dey work that’s why I did not respond… make you no see my silence like you don bring convoluted facts come silence me. Your problem is mixing the real direction of arguments with twisted and faint facts just to be seen to be winning… He was named in Eredivisie team of the season according to Oma Akatugba quoting a newspaper “Voetball” conducted poll, why don’t you tell us if he was first choice goalie in that Eredivisie team of the season?

Go and check and come back and tell us who won the award not writing convoluted half-truths bestowing a a feeling of winning arguments always on yourself. Before you accuse me of building fake websites to win arguments…

Hahahahaha…see who is talking about tainted facts…LMAOOoo posting a link showing rankings based on goals/game coefficients as proof of his fallacy….LMAOOoo.

The numbers 1-3 in that your goals/game coefficient table up there weren’t even nominated to start with….LMAOOOO. It was Remko Pasveer from Vitesse and Sergio Padt from FC Groningen that got the goalkeeper of the season nomination alongside Okoye consequent upon which Okoye emerged winner….LMAOOoo. Andre who had been banned since January will always be number one on a coefficients list since he had played the least games amongst all the goalkeepers. Panelists and Experts sat down and nominated players based on their OVERALL PERFORMANCES in the season…not on some per-game based coefficients….LMAOOOoo. Stop fooling yourself with coefficient rankings…LMAOOoo…go and throw it in the nearest dustbin to you…LMAOOo.

In case you missed it, let me reel out the 2020/21 Eredivisie Team of the year again for you according to voetbalzone, the official digital media partner of the Eredivise…LMAOOO

Eredivisie Team Van Het Jaar 2020/21

Hahahaha… Funny people. Share one link @Dr.Drey… Where it says Maduka Okoye was voted best eredivisie goalkeeper for 2021.

You are quoting Oma Akatugba a paid PR journalist here in Germany.

If you are paid money to proclaim Okoye best goalie in Netherlands shame go let you do am? That amateurish goalkeeper.

The only accomplishment he had last season was player of the season for his club and not the whole Eredivisie.

I will say it loud again… Maduka Okoye is not Super Eagles quality… let him be playing in Real Madrid… based on what we have seen he is still very far off. The guy is not even better than Ezenwa, and there keepers better than Ezenwa in NPFL. People just don’t want to say the obvious… the guy is one of the worst to ever man the post for us… he is being let off because he is young but Rohr is just extending favours to him. Super Eagles is bigger than Sparta Rotterdam.

            .
Maduka Okoye has been named in Eredivisie Team of the Year by Dutch news outlet voetbalzone, Completesports.com reports.

Okoye enjoyed a fine campaign with Sparta Rotterdam following his arrival from German club Fortuna Dusseldorf last summer.

“With competitors such as Remko Pasveer from Vitesse and Sergio Padt from FC Groningen, the choice was not easy, but Okoye had a wonderful season at Sparta,” reads a statement on their website.

The only 21-year-old Nigerian was only passed 35 times in 28 games and kept 10 clean sheets impressive figures for a goalkeeper from Sparta.

“Earlier this week, he kept his team going at FC Utrecht (0-0) with a few nice saves, which turned out to be crucial for reaching the play-offs. Robert Maaskant called the 1 meter 97 long last week at RTV Rijnmond a ‘crazy athlete’, while Kees Kwakman put him at the top of his top three revelations in the Eredivisie on Sunday. “He is very interesting. He came over from Fortuna Düsseldorf for zero euros! Really a great keeper.”

            .
            .

That amateursih goalkeeper was the goalkeeper of the season last year and no amount of racial hatred can change that…..sorry ehn…LMAOOOoo. If you like mow an entire football filed with your teeth, Okoye remains our No 1 goalkeeper till when it is someone else turn to be, and 10,000 of you cant kick the best goalkeeper in the dutch league out of our national team….not now, not anytime in the near future.

This are my own TAKEAWAYS from this international window. Every player invited by the gaffer deserves to be in the team based on current form. The same Musa that some are criticizing have already played 3 consecutive games in the Turkish league with a goal to boost.

Now on a critical note the only players I want to see in the SuperEagles are Taiwo Awoniyi, Calvin Bassey, Ovie Ejaria, Ademola Lookman and possibly Micheal Oliseh and Simy Nwankwo. That will really depend on their sustainability for a full season. They must be playing regularly at their clubs and hug the headlines to be relevant for a SuperEagles call up. All this noise about Nwakali, Nwobodo, Azubuike, Ifeanyi Mathews and the likes, if you’re not playing in the champions league playoffs at least for your club you can never be relevant under Rohr. That’s the standard this current SuperEagles have set themselves and I’m sure Google can confirm that Lmao!!!!

That said the jury is still out on Onuachu, Shehu, Omeruo including captain Musa. Musa and Omeruo have win an AFCON therefore, they will in the team based on experience and motivation. They’re not short on match fitness so they will always be relevant for the team even if they will make do with a place on the bench. Onuachu may be dropped for Awoniyi depending on how they both continue to be relevant for their clubs over the next four weeks. However, with Awoniyi continuing to perform well for Union in the Bundesliga he will surely be called up.

I like the fact that we can now rely on other players when the chips are down. Cape Verde was once a number team in Africa. A team that had beaten Cameroon and Tunisia in past WorldCup qualifiers if not for FIFA intervention of ineligible players. Cape Verde might’ve qualified for the WorldCup in 2014. Yet some delusional fans said we won by luck. Lmao!!!

    • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

**Cape Verde was once a number one team in Africa***

    • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Ayphillydegreat… I like you submission. On Musa… I believe his spot in SE is still his to loose… but he has to up his game. I watched his last match at club… It’s like the other players scantily pass the ball to him deliberately… We know what Musa can do on a good day… it may be he is still revving up as it appears he is yet to hit his usual full-throttle recently for us… Moses Simon is a good player but it appears you can’t count on him atimes… his crosses were weird yesterday, very strange skying crosses… Onuachu is not untouchable with his style as he has enjoyed a lot of involvement in Eagles… but remains average. Guys watchout for Ike Ugbo Versus Onuachu at Genk this season… I put my money on Ugbo…

  • Greenturf 3 years ago

My mention of Ifeanyi Matthew was because of the circumstances we found ourselves with our top stars unavailable. For Nwobodo it depends on the manager and what he’s looking for I’m not fussed it’s up to Gernot Rohr but you give it to the lad he has done remarkably well the past two seasons in the Turkish league,so his invitations to the super eagles will be welcomed by most Nigerian football enthusiasts.

  • Ejuke should be given more playing time as he looks so exciting

Micheal should be given more playing time as he has a lion heart

Osimhen needs to be supplied more balls because of his pace and willingness to attack any lose ball in the opposition area

Maduka should be given more playing time to build his confidence

Musa should be given his 100 cap let him allow our upcoming wingers more playing time to express themselves because we are well stocked in his department and his presence is stagnating the impact we can make with that wing

Collins is still relevant as a left back and we need more competition in the left back possible apart from zaidu and Collins probably Bassey will add more competition in that department

The oyibo wall is still our best option at center back pairing

    All these I have noticed

  • If Nigeria beat CAR in October home and away which is looking likely and Liberia lose or preferably draw with Cape Verde(preferably both legs), then we would have qualified with two games to spare as it will be mathematically impossible for any team to catch up with us.

Then we can use the last two dead rubber matches to try all these our new players to give them more playing time and boost their confidence levels.since nothing much is at stake apart from our fifa ranking.

It will be very important to remain within the top 5 as these teams will be the top seeds and will not face themselves if they all qualify for the final rounds of the qualifier.

Ahmed Musa will quit after the next AFCON and World cup.At the moment, the coaches need him in the team for his experience.Abdullai case is like Garba Lawal, always unappreciated and under rated by fans but trusted and loved by the coaches. He like Awazien brings a lot of versatility to the team. They are what we call utility players .

Please let learn to be patient with our players. They are humans too and simply can’t be at their 100% all the time.it is not easy oh.Football is not played on the keypad oh.

    • Greenturf 3 years ago

Big footballing countries don’t keep you in a team irrespective of your past unless you are still good enough.
The best should represent Nigeria at all times.Musa has not got the legs no more so should honourably retire.
Why should he take the place of a more deserving and younger player for the nations and world cup respectively should we qualify? It’s a bizarre decision and we shouldn’t accept or take things like that as normal.
Musa is a great player who set an enviable world cup scoring record for Nigeria.A legend of Nigerian football.
No one reigns forever and at some point you got to move on.

      • Mr Hush 3 years ago

        Do agree @Greenturf

I advocate Musa should be looking to retire from the national team. And I advice , he should or could just do that at the 100 cap mark. That’s a milestone.

His game was built on speed and naturally with age, one lose steam as one gets older.
He reminds me of a Michael Owen and a Victor Ikpeba(The former for his speed, the latter his acceleration). Both Losing ounces of their potency when they lost their speed and agility.

We do have able replacements, young, vibrant and hungry ; so we would do fine without the enigmatic captain Musa, who has served us well.

Furthermore, I am still not sold on Onuachu. I think his place is still up for grabs; Moffi, Awoniyi, Dessers, Sadiq or even his new club mate ,Ugbo; any of them can usurp that position.

For me , it is a long season, so let the games begin; who can tell, Onuachu can just put me to shame and win me over; and a good chunk of me wish that to happen.

@Mr Hush,I disagree on the notion of helping Musa or anyone reach a milestone.
At 99 cap if I were the coach I won’t invite you just to complete a 100 cap unless your form deserves that 100 caps!
We need to be professional in our duties people should get a position or invitation if they deserve it and we should remove sentiments in selection or appointments this way our country will get better.
Why should I respect Musa’s 100 caps when his invitation should have stopped at 90!They invited him in ten games where they shouldn’t and he was surplus to requirements and some people in this forum are turning a blind eyes to Musa’s poor form but rather applause his unfair involvement when we have better and hungrier talent like Ejuke and co laying in wait, that’s very unprofessional of the selectors and a weird decision.
A 100 cap must be earned, every count of it must be deserving otherwise it’s not legitimate!

            @Greenturf
            I fully agree on Musa.

I have always and will always be an advocate for merit over anything..

I always try to find the balance between emotions and logic; it is just a pity , football is played based on form and not just feelings.

If Musa can’t perform in that stage any longer , which I strongly feel ; I suggest he quits the international scene and give those that merit it a chance.
I believe a true captain knows when to call it quit.
A true captain don’t hold back those that can do better just for selfish gains.

            As you said@Greenturf;
            We should be professional.
And the coach should stick to those that can get the job done and shouldn’t get lost to his emotions or the politics.

        • Honestly, this Dessers matter dey bother me.

I don’t want him disenfranchised in the SE setup or to start regretting he decided to play for Nigeria.

We have not cap-tied him yet o. I don’t want us to lose him. I believe in his potential, and I want to see him succeed with Nigeria.

      • Thank you guys you are all seeing the light @Greenturf i am not sure where this change of heart came from but I highly commend your thinking. @Mr Hush you have spoking sense too.

AFTER ALL IF SPAIN CAN DROP SERGIO RAMOS FOR EURO’S BECAUSE OF LOSS OF FORM AND YOUNGER FRESHER OPTIONS (EVEN THOUGH I DISAGREE BECAUSE RAMOS IS STILL AT A HIGH LEVEL) THEN WHY SHOULD THE SAME FATE NOT BE DEALT TO MUSA. BECAUSE I MEAN IN MUSA CASE WE HAVE WAY BETTER OPTIONS

@toni WE CANNOT AFFORD TO TAKE MUSA TO WORLD CUP ON THIS CURRENT FORM. DO YOU KNOW WHAT WORLD CUP IS?.

WHAT IF WE GET TO KNOCK OUT AND WE NEED SPEED IN A DEADLOCK GAME, TO GET THE ADVANTAGE, CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY YOU WILL HAVE FAITH IN MUSA?.

I MEAN BROS @toni is Musa more important to you than Nigeria??????..

This reasoning of Musa is becoming annoying now. I mean did you not watch the Cape Verde GAME!!! Abeg Shine Ya Eye Bros.

MUSA IS NOT BIGGER THAN NIGERIA GOD FORBID!!!!!!!

        • Oga Iwunze, Sergio Ramos wasn’t “dropped” he was injured. He aggravate the injury during Champions league match vs Chelsea.pls get your facts right.

  • My Overall take is that this team is solid bar some tactical fears for the up coming games and over reliance on some players who add no value..

That been said. I still think from now until the Afcon if Rohr is smart coach he will have balls to part ways with some players now with MUSA being top of that list.

He should also not close door on some possible break ins i.e. Frank Onyeka, Emma Dennis, Isaac Success obviously Samuel Chukwueze is still to come back and is a guarantee starter on the wing.

Also I was really upste at how Rohr used Etebo against Liberia because, at Watford he is what Ndidi is to Leicester and what Onyeka is to Brentford. and he can offer alot if Aribo is not having a good game but Etebo should have been given more minutes because he has been class this season for Watford

But Lets see, because that is a tough call still however, Frank Onyeka and Etebo for me over Kingsley Michael and Innocent Bonke.. partenering the Rock Ndidi and Aribo i will choose between Onyeka and Etebo

so as you guys can see Rohr has a lot to do but this Musa Story is really a no no and is starting to look somehow, if you take into consideration the names I have mentioned. Let us look at it. Between Samuel Chukuweze, Alex Iwobi, Emmanuel Dennis, Smauel Kalu, Chidera Ejuke and Henry Onyekuru. Is there really any need for Musa!!! Terim Moffe and What is Ademola Lookma gets his clearance in time will you drop a player who just recently signed for Leicester For Musa.. No not i todays football. Who will you rather call on in deadlock game between all these names if for instance Chukwueze or Iwobi is having a tough game or tired legs. Tell Me Musa lovers

I am sure if you’re a coach you will be inviting at least 40 players to evey super eagles camp. Coach of the year I hail ooo!

  • For those criticising moses simon for his below par performance in the game, I want to remind u that although he is a right footed player he has functioned mostly on the left wing for both club and country for many years now. That alone should not be the reason why he didn’t raise his game but when u add the artificial turf and the fact that he is usually a dependable player then you wont criticise him too harshly.
I still feel uzoho is our best bet in terms of the goal keeping department, he just change club and im not sure if he is going to be number one in his new club but if he is then I think coach rohr should give him some game time in the Super Eagles so we can at least assess both of their capabilities.
Ejuke is a good player but needs to bring his team into play when he makes those dribbling runs and not hold on to the ball too long.
As much as I appreciate collins performance in the game, I cant help but wonder if he would have played so well if it had been a top team like Algeria, senegal or Egypt. His issue as always been inconsistency and not being able to raise his game when faced with stronger oppositions, its one reason he was dropped for zaidu in the past. Hopefully he has improved his game and we will be seeing a new improved j. Collins. I still think C. Bassey will make an excellent left full back if given the chance.
The two midfielders did well, innocent and kingsley. Still want to wait and see how they perform against quality opposition before I start yelling for them to be permanent additions to the team.

  • My take on the Cape Verde game is seeing how a second string Super Eagles team bagged valuable 3 points away against renowned giant killers of African football.

It was great to see debutants Kingsley Michael (whom I have always harboured faith in) and Bonke bring their “A” game to the national team.

It was also good to see that Omeruo and Awaziem could still step up to the plate when called upon.

The goal was such a shame with our right fullback on a fishing trip before Okoye was beaten by the sort of chances that would have drawn a world class save from Vincent Enyeama.

Okoye is a decent goalkeeper who will need time to grow into his role as Nigeria’s number one. Personally speaking, a physically fit and mentally conditioned Uzoho appears to have greater presence in between sticks for Nigeria.

Okoye is good but his reflexes, anticipation, positioning and timing are things that “should” get better with time.

Without being controversial, Uzoho already has sterling goalkeeper skills but it depends on how well conditioned he is mentally as to how he can produce truly outstanding renditions.

Ahmed Musa has always being an enigma even in his heydays. His Super Eagles career has being characterised by hot and cold sequences. Write him off at your own peril but I still think the former CSKA Moscow man has one or two bombshell performances left in him yet in Super Eagles colours. He displayed a dwindling if not dour performance against Cape Verde. That however does not define him.

Pompei would have been glad to see his Ejuke given the run out against Cape Verde and the Nigerian Tsar of CSKA did not disappoint with his only nadir being not finding the back of the net on occasions.

Moses Simon is a winger after my heart but one who can be quite capricious. He needs to define his game and stick to that definition. For now, one is never sure what to expect.

Shehu Abdullahi – another favourite of mine – is slowly fading into insignificance for Nigeria. He was “okay” against Cape Verde but his department was breached for their only goal.

As for Gernot Rohr: forever proving doubters wrong in qualifiers. He picks his moment to win matches (as espoused by Dr Drey). His wards got him valuable 3 points against opponents famed for taming Lions. His “young” team have put smiles in faces of fans and have announced emphatically that the Super Eagles mean business in this round of qualifiers and even beyond.

Even in the absence of his bandwagon of British bulldogs, the players on display still showed enough bite to bone out the required 3 points.

The Super Eagles are on a roll and under Rohr, they mean business in this qualifiers.

Either with a full strength squad as was against Liberia or watered down team as against Cape Verde, Nigeria are out to put all contenders to the sward, turning them into pretenders.

At this rate, it will become even more unfashionable to be a Rohr critic.

Deo baba, long time no see. Abeg, make you no dey scarce ooo. We have been missing your write ups.
He is our Ejuke, lol. He belongs to all of us. I don’t know him from Adam. Na Igbo boy em be, while me I be Yoruba man. I just like his daring, positive style of play. A winger that takes the fight to the opponent. He makes sure that the opponents defenders earn their money. The full back marking him will be sure to work over-time. That’s why I call him EBE-ANO PLAYER.
Abeg make unu forgive Shehu. He went on an errand to buy moi moi just when the pass was made that put the CV left wing back face to face with Okoye. Simon tried to make up the ground, but it was too late. To his credit, Shehu did ok for the rest of the game. As for Okoye, we have already chastised him for conceding a goal at his near post like that. Almost a taboo at this level. I like him, not just because he is handsome, but also because of his commitment and work ethic. The boy will come good. Let him and Uzoho continue to compete with each other for the number one jersey. They will make each other better.

We believed that Ejuke was good enough, based on his performance against Tunisia. And it was comfirmed.
How about Dessers, who also impressed against Tunisia? Playing Tunisia, one of the most difficult opponents in Africa, and performing well, almost scoring a goal, strongly suggests that Dessers is capable. The way we play suits him, he will score goals with us. I see that boy doing really well if he is given an opportunity!
Rohr has got himself a gigantic selection headache, with Osimhen, Iheanacho, Sadiq, Moffi, Awoniyi, Dessers, Onuachu, Ike Ugbo and others all trying to stake a claim. I wish all our strikers a goal-filled season.
