Alhaji Abdullahi Sani-Lulu, a former President of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, who has veered into politics, says he will pursue a policy of zero tolerance to corruption if he becomes governor of Kogi State via APC candidacy in the coming governorship election, Completesports.com reports.
After going through a tortuous eight-year judicial journey to clear his name from corruption allegations after leading Nigeria to her fourth FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa 2010, Sani-Lulu has now made it abundantly clear that if he becomes governor of Kogi state, corruption and all related matters would be given a clinical fight.
In November 2018, the Appeal Court in Abuja, cleared Sani-Lulu of any complicity or wrongdoing in the N2.2 billion corruption charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Sani-Lulu had claimed he didn’t touch the Nigeria Football Federation’s funds after leaving N2.8 billion in the football house’s purse on his exit as NFF peesident in 2010.
He had equally reasoned that on assumption of office in 2006, he inherited a N300m debt, but left the federation richer to the tune of N2.8 billion when he exited office in 2010.
On Monday, July 29, the former FCT Director of Sports paid his N22.5m fee for nomination and expression of interest form for the APC Kogi State Primary election slated for August 29.
On Thursday, this week, Sani-Lulu will be in Abuja to pick his nomination and expression of interest form at APC Secretariat and would subsequently be unveiled by his campaign organisation.
Completesports.com understands that 100 people, who are party members are required to sign such forms before sibmitting them at the party’s secretariat.
“Corruption remains the biggest problem the Nigerian nation is facing today which is undermining the country’s development,” Sani-Lulu reiterated.
“President Buhari is doing a lot to make the country corruption free and in this regard, he remains my mirror in corruption fight, and if I win the party primary election and go ahead to become the next governor of Kogi State, I will spare no effort in the fight against corruption.”
The FOSLA Football Academy and College, Abuja chief executive officer, further informed that this will be the springboard on which he intends to carry out a total rejuvenation of Kogi State, using the private sector to drive home his industrial developmental policies.
“I will develop the grassroots sporting programmes using education as a tool for developmental processes,” he said while revealing his plan to revamp sports in Kogi state.
”My successful experience in service particularly as the NFF president and several grassroots development programmes initiated and executed have endeared me to Kogi citizens which is a clear advantage over every other contestant.
“I am not thinking of losing, so changing political party is not an option.”
He hinged his desire to correct the ills in the society in cognisance of his past services as his motivating factor.
“With my background as a public servant, President of the NFF , my number one goal is to cater for the civil servants that have been engaged in the state.
“I was very conscious of that fact in the past and would not deviate from such as a governor if and when elected.”
