Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he will retire from international football when he feels he’s not capable to run, dribble, and shoot any longer with his legs.
The Portugal captain, 36, became the all-time top scorer in international football last month.
Ronaldo – who lifted the Euro trophy in 2016 – is hungry for more ahead of the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar in December next year.
Quizzed by Sky Sports on international retirement, he said: “But why? I think it’s not my time yet. It’s not what people want, it’s what I want.
“It’s when I feel that I’m not capable to run, to dribble, to shoot, if the power is gone… but I still have that stuff so I want to continue because I’m still motivated.

“It’s the main word – [motivated] to do my stuff, to make people happy and my family happy and the fans and myself. I want to put the level even higher.
“You speak about Portugal but in the Champions League I have the most goals, the most wins, assists… everything.
“But I want to carry on. I like to play football. I feel good to make people happy.”

Ronaldo is an embodiment of skills, he scores goals from distance, not necessarily goal mouth scrabbling, he can use both feet and head, has unrivalled fitness and very athletic, is a strong character and a great leader. He never had all of these when he first started out but it is more important to be remembered for how you are thought of when you leave the game rather than when you first arrive. The Portuguese unrivalled progress proves he should be remembered as the greatest ever. Now let’s take a closer look at all the greats of the game such as Jay Jay Okocha, Pele, Maradona, Messi, Zidane and their ilk, you notice their talent has been the major factor in seeing them to the top. This isn’t the case for the Portuguese/ManU in swinger and goal scorer, whose exceptional work ethic has been the real reason he made it to the top of his profession. However, like everything in life, Ronaldo is presently struggling to be his old self when he first started out, this can be lensed through ManU recent matches where they have to struggle to outclassed their opponents. Should he make up his mind to retire, he should ensure that a youth development programme is established where indigent, homeless, poor youth can be developed and made useful to their societies. Catching them young is the best and enduring legacy one can leave behind.
