Addo Set To Return As Black Stars Coach Ahead Clash With Super Eagles

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly set to announce the reappointment of Otto Addo as Black Stars’ new head coach on Friday, March 15, 2024.

According to footballghana.com, multiple reports in the local media suggest that the GFA has handed Addo a long-term contract.

Chris Hughton was sacked due to the Black Stars’ poor performance at the AFCON 2023.

The team crashed out in the group stage after failing to win any of their three fixtures.

If appointed, Addo’s first assignment will be against Uganda and Nigeria in an international friendly in Marrakech, Morocco in March 2024.

He was in charge when the Black Stars pipped the Eagles to the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying ticket.

In his first stint as Black Stars coach, Addo was in charge of 12 games and recorded four wins, four draws and four defeats.

  • ….To face Eguavoen in a rematch:)

    • Hehehe. Honestly didn’t understand why they parted ways after Qatar. Thought the guy wasn’t doing badly given his age and experience. Ghana under the coaches before and after him was poor.

      • @Kel, Ghana did not part ways with him. He had a running contract with Dortmund he didn’t want to cancel at the time. He was doing the Ghana job on part-time basis. It appears he’s now prepared to take up the job full time. I love his commitment and passion for the job in the past but still not fully convinced looking at his record the last time. Only time will tell.

        • Great. But would he resign from his Dortmund job or perhaps take a one or two years leave of absence? You could see the tactical discipline he brought into the team, despite his young age. Perhaps he could be allowed a free hand to choose his assistants to make up for his limited experience or like in the case of Senegal’s Cisse provided with a rich backroom staff of foreign and local assistants.

          • The news in Ghana is that the GFA is buying him out of his contract with $2m. This is yet to be confirmed though. He appears to be the front runner and the GFA is doing everything possible to get their man. Like I said earlier his previous record with the black stars does not excite me but he did well qualifying the team to Qatar. His record in the world cup proper did not inspire confidence but I want to give him another chance to prove himself
