AFCON 2019: Madagascar Beat DR Congo 4-2 On Penalties, Advance To Last Eight

Africa Cup of Nations debutants Madagascar produced another upset to beat Democratic Republic of Congo 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw and seal a quarterfinal spot.

Madagascar got off to a great start with a 9th minute lead through Ibrahim Amada’s superb 20-yard strike.

Cedric Bakambu equalised with a header in the 21st minute as the two teams went into the break tied at one all.

The Indian Ocean islanders restored their lead through Faneva Andriatsima’s in the 77th minute and were minutes away from sealing a place in the quarterfinals before Chancel Mbemba’s 90th minute equaliser forced extra-time.

The teams couldn’t be separated in extra time and penalties were needed.

Madagascar scored all their spot kicks with perfection while the DR Congo missed two, with Everton winger Yannick Bolasie’s attempt going over the bar to confirm Madagascar a quarter-final against Ghana or Tunisia in Cairo on Thursday.

No Matter How Good Or Stubborn They Are, Their Journey Ends With Their Clash With Algeria… All The Same, Kudos To Them!

They get better in every game the have played so far.

They might surprise pundits like you when they get to the final.

I have fallen in love with the team already, they are the surprise package in this year AFCON.

Madagascar are serious, can you imagine their president is their with them supporting the team, that got to tell you where the players strength is coming from.

Can your president do same for the Super Eagles, I guess it’s not necessary.

I just love them, and I have adopted Madagascar as my second team after the Super Eagles.

    There with them ( correction)

  • This is the same Madagascar that useless script writer and some idiots here calling for the head of the coach cos we lost an inconsequential match to them.

    • On calling for d head of the coach just because of dat match,I don’t subscribe to dat.
No match though,is inconsequential. That match won the group for them and helped them avoid a tougher team- Cameroon. Infact they almost finished off Congo in 90mins,if not that Congo equalised late.

“That match won the group for them and helped them avoid a tougher team- Cameroon”
Fifa doesnt seem to agree with you on Cameroon being a “tougher” team than DRC…..!

        • Thanks.
Data fed in and processed by a computer algorithm.Well that’s where a computer(or man)will always be limited sha.All data can’t be captured. That’s the story of rankings.

Our people say,”I get am before, nor be property”.I refer to the teams as they play LIVE,in this ONGOING nations cup.
