AFCON 2021: Debutant Gambia Stun Guinea, Advance Into Quarter-finals

AFCON 2021: Debutant Gambia Stun Guinea, Advance Into Quarter-finals

Gambia caused a huge upset at the last-16 stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations by stunning Guinea 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

The Scorpions are making their debut in the tournament and were the lowest-ranked FIFA team going into the competition, sitting down in 150th in the world.

They had already caused a stir by qualifying from a group Mauritiana, Mali and Tunisia, but were the heavy underdogs going into the clash against Guinea.

However, they once again upset the odds in Cameroon thanks to a 71st minute Musa Barrow goal.

Gambia winger Yusupha Nije was shown a red card on 87 minutes, but Guinea had a man sent off themselves when Ibrahima Conte was given his marching orders in added time.

They now join Tunisia and Burkina Faso as the teams who have qualified for the last eight.

And in the end Gambia managed to hold on, leading to wild scenes of celebration.

This same team beat a full strength Tunisian team, our own Eagles lost to a feather weight, corona-ravaged team led by their assistant coach. The Tunisian coach even blasted Egu for being predictable. That’s the problem I have with our ex players always calling for a particular identity in terms of game plan. When you have a particular playing pattern, your opponent can easily study and demistify your tactics, but when you vary things they get confused.
Can’t wait to read from Uncle Sege over the weekend. Hopefullyy the NFF will get a good coach, foreign or local.

    • Greenturf 2 years ago

You are still talking about hiring a local coach, seems you haven’t learnt from your experience with our local coaches

      • JimmyBall 2 years ago

It is not a problem of local coach… Ghana had a foreign coach too… where are they now? Let us look at our players critically… we have a bunch of overrated players… what we need is to henceforth stop with sentiments in inviting players… the shame with Dennis, Ighalo and Osimhen could have been avoided… Osimhen already started playing and could have played yesterday but even he is not a magician. Okocha was on super Sports campaigning for Iwobi and Eguaveon called him into play yesterady because Nigerians would have crucified him had he not introduced Iwobi on time… the coach did not ask him to go in and stamp a player. We must move on and focus on Ghana before we miss World up in Qatar… it is that simple. I asked a question yesterday, the so called “SIDON LOOK UNITED” have not answered… are you guys who are still hurting from Rohr’s sack still confdent in letting our fine boy Glamour goalkeeper keep our playoffs against Ghana… let us hear the response! We were blessed with Okoye as numero uno after Rohr’s five years sojourn… Lol. How market?

        • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

I definitely won’t field him as his confidence in national colors has taken a hit. Reports this morning from teammates claim he is in a very bad shape due to abuses on his Instagram which made him deactivate the comment section…. He will be jittery knowing any mistake will be bad…I am not blaming him for yesterday even tho he could have done better. My 100% blame is on Eguavoen who kept relying on Simon. You have to be a fool to think teams in the knockout won’t study the team they are.meeting lol..

          • JimmyBall 2 years ago

@Footballfanatic… I agree with you. I am currently watching Cameroon vs Comoros and do you know Comoros goalkeeper is an outfield player and they already had a man sent off from the 7th minute and yet Cameroon is still struggling to score… I don’t want to believe a script is being played to remove all obstacles from the path of Cameroon… They just scored though.

        • Shut up idiot. I will allow Kaduna Okoye to still be our keeper even after yesterday’s match.
Ghana you are talking about had old legs that cannot keep up with the tempo of the game. That is a clear scientific explanation with facts.

Andre Ayew is 32 years. Jordan Anew is 30 years old.The guy at Arsenal is 28 years old.

If you can still run like when you were in your twenties then you must be on something else.

All your named candidates for Super Eagles failed woefully. Including Umar, yet you open your basket brain to be spewing trash here.

Ode. Iwobi is still by far our best central midfielder, even after a red card.
Argue with your brains. Ode Oshi

          • JimmyBall 2 years ago

@Ben… You just the make me laugh. This matter pain you… I have no candidate. Nwakali did very well, Sadiq did ok even though I am never big on him… Ndah shut your mouth… and Olayinka played his hearts out and Eguaveon praised him… Go and rest even Kanu Nwankwo never won nations cup… infact Kanu never had a cup of nations goal. Go and put Okoye in post against Ghana… You say Andrew Ayew is old at 32yrs, and Jordan also old at 30yrs… they were born in France so that’s their real age… How old is Musa, Umeruo, Akpeyi, and even Frank Onyeka… be there lying to yourself. Ww have lost to Egypt and Cote d’viore if Rohr was in charge… even crickets were beating us… Keep changing aliases mumu.

          • OkoyeBasket 2 years ago

            Ewobi like you@Ben, Ode!

Go and form your own team and put the average Okoye basket in your post; aka #fineboy#no-show#

Let the incoming Coach try field Okoye and see wonders against Ghana. You think Ghana don’t know that Okoye is poor… Shoot the ball hard anywhere around the 18 and you have a rain of goals.

Okoye lack quick calculative foot steps b4 diving…

All our Midfielders and attackers must learn how to shoot accurately from far and close range.

Imagine Ndidi with all his EPL experience cannot play an accurate shot on target wasting our balls.. check Egypt and Tunisia highlights.

What about the R2? Our wingers and strikers must also learn it to be more dangerous around the 18.

We don’t have a good shot tacker like Taiye Taiwo, E.Emenike, Yekini, Oliseh… etc.

Moses Simon should kindly master set pieces (corners and free kicks).. just imagine he converted the last minutes free kick close to the 18???

SE need need to audition Amoo, Michael Olise, Ejaria, Tella… et al. Someone who could hold the ball confidently and can take on opponents to create chances and score himself wit any space.

            Dennis, Lookman,… Should be incorporated.

The central defense too is a suspect o.

            Cheers!

        • Dennis 2 years ago

@jimmyball so suddenly our players are overrated? The same players you said that any coach can win the AFCON with them except rohr? I didn’t know they were overrated o. When they were coached by rohr, you said they were world class players being held back by rohr. Now they’ve been coached by ‘let us fail with our own’, they are now overrated. Wahala
What was our ranking before rohr took us to the AFCON and what was our ranking after the AFCON? Now, let us take note of how we will be ranked after this AFCON, baring in mind we were coached by a tactical genius who is miles ahead of rohr

        • MuYiwa 2 years ago

@Jimmyball, did u actually just confirm what Rohr has been saying all these years, that our players are young and not big stars by saying they are overrated. People like u threw sticks at Rohr for saying our players don’t play for Man U and Barca. In fact, Ndidi just showed why big teams are not coming for him with some of his performance at the Afcon esp y’day. U criticise Rohr over Okoye, why didn’t Egu bring in Adeleye just like he smuggled in Nwakali and Ndah. Why did he go to the Afcon with an idle Noble? And is it Rohr who forced Egu to give Okoye the no 1 position at the Afcon.

  • Foreign coach, foreign coach… Hmmm…

Besides the cost of acquiring a foreign coach that saw the former coach Rohr still being owed his wages, there is also the time frame for whoever foreign coach to get acquainted with our players considering the fact that the World cup playoff against Ghana is just next in March, we need continuity in the system to get a better outcome. It is my suggestion to the NFF that we should stick with Eguavoen since he has worked with the boys for sometime now, have learnt their lessons and when availed with more time for planning, the SE could be unbeatable. Winning or losing with our own is the most appropriate agreement as we continue to undermine any form of noise making.
    Congrats to the Gambians.

    • Bello 2 years ago

The problem Eguavoen had was limited time to prepare. I knew it was going to be a herculean task.

      • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

That doesn’t hold water….When he won all the group matches no one not even himself mentioned the timing available to prepare…..He kept talking non stop on the media about the Nigerian football philosophy forgetting that other teams were listening and watching. He thought he had gotten to the finals before even playing Tunisia…..
Why was Ejuke not started? After the first half in a knockout game why didn’t u switch styles up? Eguavoen really pissed me off yesterday but no choice than for him to continue. We really dont have time for a new coach and familiarization with the players and new caoch…….NFF and their shambolic mgmt.

        • No continuation for Eguavoen as Super Eagles coach. He should even be sacked at NFF Technical Director as there is nothing technical about him.

How can you expose your strategy on news media, how can you grant several interviews before the kick off of AFCON.
No thinking about hiding his tactics till he gets to the field of play.

Even Rohr never granted many interviews that exposed his tactics.

          There are several lessons here.

          • Fanny 2 years ago

This is why they said you are making noise.

          • @Ben you really make a point Eguavouen talks too much and he shows that he has not learnt from the past mistakes especially afcon 2006… the game between Nigeria and Tunisia he was tactically confused and lacks ideal.

        • Spot on.

No time for a new coach to come and start from the beginning again with the players before the Ghana clash.

Except Peseiro will perform magic or be extremely lucky.

Eguavoen should pick himself up and shore up on his weaknesses.

I just read something on all Africa now about Nigerian national teams. All the generations of SE teams we’ve ever had have always been predictable. We never had or activated more than one tactic in any one particular game. And once our game plan is thwarted, we fizzle out. The best we have ever had was in 1994 and even back then Wester Hof and his boys lost concentration. This is the sole Achilles heel of any strong or talented SE team.

We can’t boast of having had any world class coach of far-reaching impact, since 1994.

In 2018 after a disastrous outing in Russia, NFF kept coach Rohr on the job on grounds of continuity, but unfortunately his football juice was on a downward trend.

What we need is a young, smart, and hungry coach who is ready to grow and learn, not necessarily world class ready-made coach. A coach who is hungry, willing to learn and grow, given the right players and talents will become world class. This describes the trajectory of someone like Hervé Renard.

Guys let’s cut them some slack and get over the loss. Quit spilling bile on Okoye and the rest of the squad. His young and will come good in the near future.

Honestly IMHO, the loss against Argentina @ the 2018 WC is less excusable than this one.

Let’s support the players to do their best against Ghana. The preparations start now. Let’s not begin to peep into Ghana in order to fill our psych with what’s working for them or not. This was our undoing prior to the game Vs Tunisia. Let’s just work on ourselves 100%.

Best of luck SE..WE CAN DO IT.

        • abi o Eguaveon just made the other coaches job easy by revealing his strategy.

He wan dey form like Mourinho and Guardiola but those guys coach club sides and they change formation.

He was naive and now we need a different coach with different strategy.

      • Edafe Ehis 2 years ago

@Bello: Even Odion Ighalo and Osimhen weren’t in the team to score goals. I think some of us are deliberately forgetting all that. It is possible they make it to the playoffs.

      • KENNETH 2 years ago

You have nailed it. I re-watches the match again to be sure of where we went wrong. And the truth is had we started with tempo after conceding the goal in the first half we would have beaten the Tunisians. Basically luck was not on our side. We did everything humanly possible to win that game and the Tunisian came to sacrifice themselves just to win that game. Just like someone pointed out, all okoye had to do was parry the ball to the side with both hands. The shot was played straight at him. I would have love for eguavoen to stay because I saw a different eagles team. He didn’t have to leave the position. With the short time he had. I would even say a week. Because most of this players were trickling in batches. We move on.

        • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

The goal was in the second half miserable Moron. Person wey no even watch match come here they rant. Na Sango go take blood shower. Just say goodbye to any of your useless comments on this forum from now on.

  • Michel 2 years ago

I will advise that we allow eguavon to handle the team till after the play off then hand the team over to amunike as our coach.lessons have been learnt, eguavon made the mistake of not being flexible,he would have changed things a bit but he was still hoping on Moses to perform wonders, sometimes I wonder if these ex footballers even know football at all.fir God’s sake can we stop putting okoye on the post ,porca putana.

  • @JimmyBall you are such a big time idiot. Oya bring out the statistics of your players Nwakali, Peter Olayinka and Ndah.

How many tackles did Nwakali make, how many complete passes. What was his work rate, how many assists. How many runs into the opponents half did he make as a creative midfielder???

For Peter Olayinka, how many assists??
How many goals??? How many interceptions from the opponents defenders did he make???

For Ndah – How many interceptions from the opponents strikers, how many passes, work rate???

If Rohr was in charge, he wouldn’t loose to a depleted Tunisian squad and an assistant coach for that matter.

Be arguing about Musa and Omeruo’s real age. As if there was no age testing when these guys played at young age in national colours.

Ode of the highest order. Mad man.

    • JimmyBall 2 years ago

@Ben… You are monkey. MUSA never played U-17. Umeruo yes… But Musa is not less than 35yrs. Eguaveon won 75% of his matches and did very well… Go and field Maduka Okoye in Accra or Kumasi aagainst Ghana… Ghanaians already knows he is just a model and not a goalkeeper… they will fire him from all angles you will see… just pray he man’s the post. Is it still rocket science to know he was the reason Sierra Leone actually embarrassed us in Benin City? No homebased goal keeper good only a fake division 4 German footballer Rohr could scout… We wasted our 5years with an old expired ancient of days coach.

      • @JimmyBall, please quote where I said Ahmed Musa played under 17. You see why I said you are an idiot.
Where is the playerstatistics of your favoured legion of scouted players in Super Eagles shirts.

We are waiting. The same goal keeper that was used by Rohr without him blaming they guy is the one at fault???
The same goalkeeper that had 2 clean sheets under your Eguardiola is now the problem???
Rohr was an ancient of days coach but was unpredictable. Your Eguardiola that used football tactics of 28 years old and played beautiful football created a new record that we have not seen in our 28 years of footballing history.

Loosing out in R16 at AFCON,Not quarter or semis sef. He even did worse than his Bronze record in 2008. Yet you are still campaigning for him.

Mister, now you are saying Okoye is the reason Nigeria got embarrassed. Yet other big nations are falling to newcomers at AFCON.
That doesn’t tell you that African football has changed.

Big fat ignorant and tribalistic brain of yours. Iranu Oshi.

        • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

28 year footballing history??? Are you serious or kidding. Nigeria has been playing football longer than 28 years. Maybe you are a kid…

          • Another He-goat has arrived. Bia, when did Nigeria gain prominence in the World of football by playing at the World Cup and not crashing out at the early stages of the tournament like 2022. That’s 28 years Oga. Since the USA 94 team, we have always progressed beyond R16 at AFCON.
Until Eguardiola took over, he created another record we have not seen in 28 years since USA 94

        • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

Bastard we won our first Nations cup in 1980. This is only the 1st time we have been knocked out in the round of 16….We have been knocked out in the quarterfinal before and the We’ve been playing nations cup since 1963….I dont know how a.retard like you came up with 28 year footballing history. Keeo changing your name you still have the same sick pattern..you son of a bitch!

          • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

The only other time we performed badly was 1982 when we didn’t qualify from the group stage being defending Champions….

  • Dennis 2 years ago

According to jimmyball, we failed because rohr made okoye the number 1 goalkeeper. We failed because okoye being poor, rohr held a gun to eguaveon’s head to play okoye always. Despite okoye being the best keeper in the Dutch league last season, earning a move to the epl this season, he’s the reason we failed. Ladies and gentlemen, jimmyball said leaving in the round of 16 is a better achievement than what rohr did in the last AFCON. Ladies and gentlemen, jimmyball said eguaveon was receiving instructions from rohr and that’s why we failed

Please, no one should criticize eguaveon again. We must all attack rohr. He’s the reason we finished were we did. All hail jimmyball, the wisest of them all. As we criticize okoye who was given his debut by rohr, why did you leave out other players who were introduced into the eagles by rohr also? Jimmyball, you too much jor

    • This is why some of are seen as noise makers. After the noise, then?

    • MuYiwa 2 years ago

Jimmyball has lost it. Just let him be. When Egu was giving credit to Rohr, they said it was not like that, some even said that Rohr was giving Onuachu the wrong instructions hence his poor showing with the Eagles. Maybe it was Rohr that also gave Chukwueze, Okoye and Ejuke wrong instructions at the afcon. Now it is Rohrs fault that we lost to a team that managed to pick 11 fit players for the match yday. At least we have eventually failed with our own.

    • You even have time for that pathetic liar. They have run out of idea to clean the mess they created

  • See the way Comoros played despite all the odd against them and even in red card they reacted if not for the covid issue they would have beaten the Cameroonian even with their red card

    • JimmyBall 2 years ago

Your best player in Turkey is Anthony Nwaekeme but since he refused to sign agency with Rohr connect… grandpa ensured he was never called up. Till date Anthony Nwaekeme is Nigerians standout player turkey still very active but what did moongod did to him? Rohr retrogressed our team for 5years… atleast even cricket begin beat Eagles… I am proud of Eguaveon joor… na lose we lose but Tunisia got it easy because we payed under strength it’s as simple as that… Iwobi and Maduka should retire from football and start karate and modeling professionally… Hahaha. I am just enjoying myself… ATLEAST WE FAILED WITH OUR OWN THIS TIME… Lol. Has Germany ever hired a Nigerian as their national team coach as blackman no get shame…. Ball wey we begin play since 1945 as a nation. Go and bring another white God and kiss Qatar 2022 goodbye… NA ME TALK AM!

      • Ode, Iranu Oshi. Which ball did we play in 1945. When did Nigeria gain freedom from slavery???

When did we get the name Nigeria?? Was it not 1960 again.

Where is your proof that Nwakaeme refused to sign Agency with Rohr or any Super Eagles player in the first place?
        He – goat.

You are just an idiot, in fact a monkey just making noise.

        • GentleD 2 years ago

          Mr Ben,

Stop displaying so much ignorance in public. Nigeria has been playing organized football before independence in 1960.

  • It shows that since 2006 Eguavouen has not learnt anything when you look at the game carefully you will see that Eguavouen didn’t prepared the team tactically well enough.

    • JimmyBall 2 years ago

@Bright forget it… We can’t always win. Which coach no the lose match atleast we play without fear. Even Rohr could not beat Liberia in Morocco… A no man’s land. Leave that white spirit one side… Eguaveon did well. Let’s pair him with Amuneke/Finidi!/Manu… No time for any white god now.

      • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

You’re a liar. We beat Liberia 2-0 in Morocco. Focus on Eguavoen who just gave us our worst AFCON outing since 1982. At least Rigid and Grandpa football gave us bronze after your Africandiolas failed to qualify for back to back AFCONS. TikiTaka could only knock us out in the round of 16. Lmao!! We can’t change our tactics in the middle of a tournament coming from a whole technical director. The same Uzoho they are want ahead of Maduka almost gift Guinea Bissau a goal if not for Ajayi. Abeg let’s hope we can scale through Ghana to reach Qatar. All your fellow comrades have buried their heads in shame and I’m ready for any one on this forum. I hope some of them haven’t hanged themselves by now. Lmao!!

        • KENNETH 2 years ago

Loook at this asslicker. Abeg focus on your mechanic Job. We don’t need your comments. Because your deluded crew are now coming out, you self wan show yansh. Did you not say we should allow eguavoen stay. Now you changing mouth. Well asslickers like you are not had to find. Abeg jimmy abeg leave them alone, I bet you with there clueless oyinbo coach with no tactics would have kicked us out in the group stage.

          • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Look at this one who needs more help in his miserable life trying to make himself relevant. Lmao!! By now you should’ve change your name back to the monkey we know you to be from time immemorial. Lmao!! Where did I ever said Eguavoen should remain the coach?? Miserable piss of shit. At least the PE teacher/ mechanic took us to a bronze medal finish after your local Guardiolas failed miserably to qualify for ordinary AFCON. Your Egudiola has given us the wort outing at the AFCON since 1982. Who are you to tell me not comment here na god go punish your entire generation. Useless worthless swine.

      • MuYiwa 2 years ago

@Jimmyball, there you go again, we can’t win all the time. When Rohr was in charge u never said that statement. Now that ur own has crashed us out of the nations cup at just the round of 16, the worst since 1982, with our world class players who can win the nations cup with just few weeks preparation, now your tune has changed. The players according to you are now overrated. Now it is no longer a crime to lose a match as one cannot win all matches. This is 2022 go and repent. Stop saying all kind of untrue things just to defend our shambolic the outing. The Tunisian team we played against is an understrength team. We beat them under Rohr with their strongest team. Now we are home watching after failing with our own.

    • I went back and watched his 2006 games when he first got appointed and this team played way better. From the ball movement, pressing, and compact defensively they were he has improved on his coaching abilities. I love his football philosophy of high intensity, mass attack and mass defense strategy. He shouldn’t have changed it for the Tunisia game. I understand the sentiment of Rohr supporters and trust me I was with you guys until he got derailed in his approach to games. I have no doubt he would not have won anything as football has shown lately fortune only favors the brave. If he can make few tactical tweaks and have SE play with the same dominance they did in the group stage always regardless of opposition I have no doubt we will compete well globally. He needs better assistants and SE needs a solid bench or second 11. If he is given the support and free hand in selections he will do well.

  • KENNETH 2 years ago

Sometimes I wonder why I argue with a liar and a brainless mechanic. Who has never played the game. Looking for cheap publicity on CSN. Abi 6 years and only bronze is the only consolation. O ma se. But someone that was given the assignment in 2 weeks and took you to round of 16 is now the scapegoat. Bros abeg go drink engine oil biko, because the wey you dey reason now sure shows you deluded.

    • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

I’m not a callous lowlife miserable brainless Baboon like you and your likes. Is it not this disaster you are trying to avoid in the first place?? Brainless mad dog. Wasn’t Eguavoen the technical director who has been with the team for more than a year. Wasn’t he the one who selected the team that was disgraced against Mexico??? Na Sọpọna go kill you there. As a Nigerian I put my support on the team irrespective of the coach. Worthless bad belle nonentities like you are always praying and looking for us to lose under Rohr just to justify your lunatic reasoning that he must be sacked. Useless piss of shit crawl back to the shit hole you’ve been spewing rubbish from.

Look at this hungry good for nothing dog coming here to bark needlessly. What would the white man’s ass that you lick do differently. It is people like you odegbami talks about. Those that walk with there eyes closed. Na all of us sopono go kill eventually. So keep ranting. Abi make I send biscuit bone to your shoo. Seems you hungry tonight

  • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Dumbass moron. We pro Rohr’s have always been here still supporting the team despite the bone head decision of trying to avoid this disaster that eventually ravaged our football. Useless fool. It is Odegbami of all people that I will listen to?? Lmao!!! What impetus has Odegbami brought to our since all his baseless rantings other than to take our football back to 1982. Na Ṣango to use your blood bath las las. Ode suponu. Sugọmu.

@Ayphillydegreat; the loss to Tunisia is very painful because Eguafon though himself is an upgraded local version of Oga Rohr ; but was able to give us great football that was lacking in the erstwhile clueless white coach Rohr .

    No doubt Eguafon is equally Mr Yes-Man as Rohr also having same thing in common, can easily be manipulated with corrupt players call up as in John Noble of this world ;

Then talk of helping himself when NFF would not pay him SE coach salary other than allowance by wasting a slot for Igahalo that was not needed for football reason other than his rich Saudi money , just as Oga Rohr too turned to the retired and supper flopped Igahalo when NFF was owing him accumulated salaries.

Eguafon played 5 games won 4 , conceded 1 goal in open game and one penalty ; becoming the best coach in the round one .

Eguafon is far better than the clueless Belmadi’s trainee oga Rohr that was tutored throughout his almost 6 years directionless with SE ; at least tactically and morale lifting.

Just imagine if the corrupt useless NFF Amaju Fraud-Pinnick had even agreed to pay Eguafon just half of what was wasted on Oga Rohr ; would Eguafon not have called up Amoo and Dessers rather than wasting a good slot for a retired Igahalo, who obviously was not needed by him for football reason , other than the Saudi Dollars he would bring to upgrade coach pocket ( interestingly, no one is talking of Igahalo again except Osimeh & co)

Just imagine, if Eguafon had gotten 2 months to prepare for Afcon .

As bad as Eguafon is ; he is an upgraded local version of Oga Rohr , better than him tactically, without salary

The only error by NFF is sacking Rohr very late , when he ought to have been rightly kicked out long before his sack
    Statistics :

Rohr with established great players Mikel , Igahalo at his prime , Victor mosses, Osimeh , solid Oyinbo wall then Balogun & Ekong , Indidi, with solid uninterrupted $30k for good 2 years with 2 years to prepare SE yet he was kicked out in semi final by Algerian local coach , loosing also in the group stage ( now compare that with Eguafon records of not even promised salary , with less than 3 weeks to prepare the job , taken over a team with Osimeh that struggled to draw in our backyard with Cape Verde ) .

So my brother, Eguafon is an upgraded local version of Rohr , Oga Rohr did not have any advantage over him , he should deserved to be kicked out only that , it was lately done by his business partner Amaju Fraud-Pinnick

    • No Wonder Nigeria is still like this….

      I can’t believe this.

Some people here suppose to hide their face in shame….

How can an “ASSISTANT COACH” use team B and confidently “OUTCLASS” our “TECHNICAL DIRECTOR” TECHNICALLY & TACTICALLY is what we don’t understand.

A whole TECHNICAL DIRECTOR outclassed technically & taxti by an unknown assistant and we think we have a technical director in our football.
      Nigeria is gone.

EGUAVOEN made a very big mistake by accepting this useless job Nff gave to him….

See how his record is dented by an unknown assistant.

What a useless record….. An assistant coach technically and tactically outclassed me in round of 16…..
      Chaiiiiii….

How would you tell this to your generation.

    • “Tactically” not taxti.

  • DeSTAR 2 years ago

… better than the Belmadi’s trainee Oga Rohr that was well tutored in his almost 6 years directionless with SE by the same Algerian local coach Belmadi that other coaches beat him not only once but twice (error corrected )

    • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Abeg find another excuse for your miserable and worst outing at the AFCON since 1982. It is apparent that Eguavoen was stuck in the 94 squad. Thinking Ndidi is Oliseh, thinking Chukwueze and Simon are Finidi and Amunike, thinking Iheanacho and Awoniyi are Amokachi and Yekini. He just told them to go out there and have fun. No reading of the opponent’s strengths and you’re here just talking for talking sake. Belmadi trainee took us to a podium finish on his first AFCON with Nigeria. Cameroon we’re leading us at half time in Alexandria. The coach changed his tactics and we came back and won the game. You better be praying that you can scale through Ghana to make it to Qatar. The rest of your cohorts have already burned their heads in shame and shambles. You’re here consoling yourself Lmao!! Is this not the disaster you guys are avoiding??? How does it concern me that Eguavoen got the job only 2 months to the tournament?? How is that my problem?? The objective is to win the cup irrespective of who the coach is and we stood by the team all through. Now is time to reflect and my guy you have absolutely no point other than just coming here to rant without facts. Lmao!!!! Say something else maybe I can relate with you.

Obviously u hungry. Biscuit would not work. Guess u don broke. You ashewos no carry food cone give you. Better KFC garbage and look for something to eat. You this deluded fool. What have you achieved more than odegbami. Last time I checked he is a national hero. Who sabi ur mechanic self outhere. Abeg we don’t need your excursion videos on the platform

    • Eguavon did well. Gave us good attacking football with very short preparation. Did not even have a full team until days before the tournament. If he did this in a short time makes him way better than Rohr in my book. Had many players missing and even with the tactical errors yesterday if the strikers were clinical we probably would have won. Also yesterday he brought Iwobi in to attack through the middle and had over 30mins. The tempo of the game was starting to heat up and if it wasn’t for the red card I have no doubt they would have turned things around. Imagine playing with 10men yet was more threatening to score. Eguavon should continue until after the Ghana World Cup qualifiers. I have no doubt if he has Oshimen another midfielder that can do the space roaming no.10 that Iwobi does or better. He will do well. If he qualifies then give him adequate support, free hand and time to prepare for the World Cup proper. He should get better assistants like Amunike and Aloy Agu should be fired as goal keeper trainer.

He should start now scouting players to shore up weaknesses in the team. If he can get another explosive winger on the right wing, solid AM open things up in the middle when needed and they should always play with the tempo the played with against Egypt and in the group stages. That to me is where he began to get it wrong. If they had played with the same intensity and press as in Egypt it would have opened things up for Simon and Iwobi wouldn’t have been pressed to make something happen which I think is why he mistakenly made the tackle got him a red. Eguavon is a good coach. Minor tweaks and this team is good to go. Yesterday was one of those days where everything that could go wrong did. People forget it was same Iwobi that controlled the no.10 position and midfield when we beat Tunisia in the 3rd place game in last AFCON.

      • …Eguavon did well. Gave us good attacking football with very short preparation…
        __@Rez

        Short preparation indeed.
If u like give him 10yrs he’ll still not reach the final.

        Look at it;

In 2006 with the likes of OKOCHA, KANU,MIKEL, TAIWO, ENYEAMA, UTAKA, OSAZE, ORUMA, MARTINS, YOBO, ODIAH, OBODO all in their prime and best form yet our coach “Eguavoen” can’t win any match at regulation time in the knockout stage even when enough time was given to him to prepare for the tournament in Egypt.

Who nor good nor good my brother.

Let’s leave this matter for the martyrs.

He has failed twice just like SIASIA.

KESHI did it at his second outing.

We expected Eguavoen to follow his steps but he failed woefully the second time.
This time around to an unknown assistant coach with a depleted squad.

Loook at this mouth twister. And it is your oyinbo master that will win us the cup. In 2 weeks I bet u saw good football. But 6 years we saw garbage. Look at this rabid dog. The idiot was up there licking the ass of Saintfielt. Claiming he could do well with the array of mediocre stars we have. Lmao!! Go and hang yourselves useless moron. Didn’t you expect them to win the cup even in two weeks?? Are you not the crying that he will bring the cup?? Worthless pig. How many times did Rohr have when he delivered the WorldCup ticket with Algeria and Cameroon in our group. Stupid lunatic idiot.

        • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Your Egudiola failed woeful with an unknown assistant coach with a depleted team taking our football back to 1982. Na Sango go use your blood take shower las las.

Wow, seems the barbecue sauce didn’t come in handy on your biscuit bone. I will help you add okro and hot sauce since you continue to want to spill garbage. At least you’re still stuck with Kenneth. By tomorrow I’m sure na Kingsley we go see Lmao!! Or maybe the ministry of names will return your original name Ade to you. Miserable fool trying to be relevant. Who sabi you for here?? Better still you can use my name to fool yourself around. Lmao!! Miserable nincompoop. Useless scumbag moron.

  • Ayphillydegrea 2 years ago

Rez thank you. Whatever those fools in the NFF and the joke of a minister decides from now I’m all for it. As long as we qualify for the WorldCup. This chapter is over and may God punish those who have taken our football back to 1982. Reaching the Semis of the AFCON is practically our birthright. The simple truth is that Eguavoen was stuck in 1994. I hope they make the best decision at least for the sake of the WorldCup. That’s my own take. We’ll see how things go in the next few weeks.

  • All these baseless excuses u ppl are giving now is useless and this is what we wanted to avoid.

    Short time for preparation

    Salary being too small

Little or no support from nff

    Red card

    and all bla bla bla…

    Pure rubbish….

After watching that game for 30min I knew there’s nothing, I mean nothing we can do in that game again if we continue to play that way.

The Tunisian were composed both in the RB, LB, DM & CB position.
Stats proofs it after 45min of play no single shot on target.

I was even praying for SIMON or IHEANACHO to be fouled in the box but those tall, huge & strong Tunisian defenders were so clinical.

A technical coach should have tried something different by swapping Simon with chukwueze for at least 10min and if nothing works in that first half change formation in the second half just like Rohr did against ICELAND, ENGLAND, CAMEROON and some other high profile matches which I can’t recall now and demolish that their formidable backline.

Even if we were given 5hrs we can’t beat that Tunisian side with that rubbish we were playing.

They were only afraid of the name ” Nigeria” if not they would have bash us with goals.

    We were just lucky.

    • onwajunior 2 years ago

Thanks. That was what I saw as well. In the 1st half as nothing was working I was like the coach should tell Simon and Chukwueze to start dribbling inside the box instead of staying wide to at least get a penalty.

      • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Apart from the first half against Egypt. You can tell that we do not have a technical bench all through the ouster. They were just stuck on the players individual brilliance which can only take you out of the group stage. When it was time to be counted they floundered. Couldn’t read their opponent to tweak formation. They want to play like the 94 SuperEagles but they forgot that Westehoff didn’t use any of Amunike and Finidi in the group stage until the knockout stages.

I like Gambia coach, he over confidence his player and he said he will surprise some biģer teams in this tournament.

  • Hello fellow soccer-lovers. Have been following all the contributions here for a good while.
I have been hesitant to join for fear of abuse. Please, let us try to be respectful of ourselves and each other while making our contributions. Disappointed by our ouster yesterday from AAFCON 2021. People should try not to invest too much emotions on Nigerian teams. And I respect all the players, but I wasn’t all that surprised that they were eliminated by a depleted Tunisian team. Nigerian teams don’t manage success well and out players are just not that good.

    • Mahmud Shuaib 2 years ago

Nuff said…bless you loads @REZ. SADIQ, MOSES, ARIBO all missed clear chances.

Tunisia never had a sniff of our goal other the 2 long rangers!

CPL ROHR (lol. Apologies to MONKEYPOST) had about 6 years and never had a SETTLED first 11, didn’t know how best to deploy his players, didnt know the strengths and weaknesses of his players, never allowed for competition etc.

Imagine a coach who kept inviting SEHHU from CYPRUS when BONKE, NWOBODO, ALHASSAN, NWAKALI and DELE BASHIRU (pls go watch that guy in READING. Playing week in week out) were doing very well. No bpdy should come and talj versatility here when we have AINA, EBUEHI and AWAZIEM who can play RB with distinction

Another player he persisted with was AHMED MUSA (even when he was clubless)’when NWAEKEME was turning heads in Turkey. Played him once and discarded him.

Imagine a coach who will bench a regular in Italy; AINA (top 5 league) and play AWAZIEM (CB and Turkey)’or MOSES SIMON a winger in his position.

Imagine a coach who will play a division 2 COLLINS ahead of top 6 PORTUGUESE league based ZAIDU

Imagine a coach who will call up JOHN NOBLE and AKPERE at the detriment of an Israeli based player.

EGUAVOEN in both his first and second coming (both very brief and short) has proven to be better than ROHR in every aspect of the game.

Respected international football figures like GARY LINEKAR a WC top scorer and semi finalist and others were falling heels over one another to be associated with SE because of our beautiful and dominant displays.

Give EGUAVOEN same free hand and time like ROHR, then we can judge him.

ROHR took over in 2016 and by 2021 didnt still have a TEAM!

In 3 matches, EGUAVOEN was able to establish a first 11. Pls give him credit.

I hear people say a second string TUNISIAN team forgetting that EGUAVOEN’s team too was a half strength SE team.

      No BALOGUN
      No OSIMHEN
      No ONUACHU
      No ETEBO
      No KALU

at least 3 of above would have started and our bench enriched with Samuel Kalu and Onuachu (played more with team than OLAYINKA, AWONIYI and UMaR).

AYPHILLY talking about ROHR having short time before WC bla bls bla. Was it not same man who lost to SOUTH AFRICA at home?

He was appointed in 2016 and WC was 2018. Had some AFCON qualifiers before WC. Definitely not 2’weeks. EGUAVOEN knows players but not CLOSELY as to give them instructions.

Give him time like ROHR then we can judge. But the slave mentality in us Will NEVER allow us entrust our locals with same responsibilities we do the whites.

AMODU SHUAIBU, ONIGNINDE, KESHI etc were never accorded time or respect despite the fact that they achieve what the whites did too.

After failing in the group stages with OTTO GLORIA in LIBYA 82, ONIGBINDE raised an entirely new team and won silver in 1984!

Amodu qualified us twice and bronze in Mali but NFF will not allow for continuity

Amodu qualified us again only for Bpra Milutinovic to come from nowhere

Allow local coaches time, pay them good money and as and when due. When they then fail, we can come here and review things.

      Stay blessed everyone.
