AFCON 2021 Qualifier: Super Eagles to Play Sierra Leone in Uyo March 27

Super Eagles of Nigeria will be home to Sierra Leone on March 27 in a matchday-three of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo, Completesports.com reports

This is contrary to an earlier media reports that the match will hold at the refurbished Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Completesports.com’s findings revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation inspection team that inspected the stadium recently observed that the match is coming too soon for the game to hold in Benin City

“Benin City cannot host the Super Eagles against Sierra Leone game because of a number of reasons and that is why we have decided to return to Uyo. The Ogbemudia Stadium is not fully ready according to the report from our inspection team and even it will be ready, the stadium will be hosting the National Sports Festival at same period of the match.

“We chose to play on Friday March 27 to give us ample time to prepare for the return leg five days later. At least our players will have three days training after arriving from their respective clubs in Europe,” our source who is an executive member of the NFF stated.

The March 27 match against Sierra Leone has been scheduled for 5pm for security reasons.

Meanwhile, the NFF is hoping the AFCON qualifier against Lesotho will hold in Benin City later in the year.

Happy to know that the NFF is on top of things. Kudos to you all. Nigerians are satisfied the ways things are being managed today.

SE goalkeeping department just got a big boost with recent news of Alampasu playing as the first choice GK of his new club and the other guy in Isreal. Hopefully, SE handlers are monitoring these developments.

Indeed its a good one for Alampasu. I was glad for him when that news broke yesterday. Even though there arent any indications of him playing as 1st choice yet, going by that link, I am confident he has the ability and talent to tie down the no1 position soon. Let’s all just keeping supporting him with prayers. I hope he’s more mature now and will be more focused.

According to the report, “…….Alampasu has not played club football since leaving Portuguese side CD Feirense IN THE SUMMER OF 2018 (One full year and a half ago). In his four years stint as a professional goalkeeper where he moved from the U-19 of fellow Portuguese side Estoril to CD Feirense he has only played a total of nine club games……”

Yet some people come here and insult the national team coach for not inviting Dele to the national team. Na dem sabi pass. I hope this few lines will at least make some sense to them.

Common sense dictates that you send an inspection team first to Benin to appraise the state of the facility before going to public with the news that Benin will host the game. But common sense and NFF are like Oil and Water.

Imagine if people/organizations had built their plans – logistics, accommodation, marketing, manpower etc. on the game holding in Benin….? One day one day, professionalism will sha find its way into the glass house.
