AFCON 2023: Drama As Teixeira Scores Late In Cape Verde, Egypt’s Four-Goal Thriller

Cape Verde maintained their dominance in group B as the team qualified to the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nation after holding Egypt to a pulsating 2-2 draw on Monday.

Cape Verde took the lead in the 45th minute through Gilson Tavares’s low drive shot that beat Egypt goalkeeper, Mohamed El Shenawy.

However, the Pharaohs wasted no time in the second half as Trezeguet leveled parity in the 50th minute to revive their hope of qualifying to the knock out stages.

Egypt almost made it 2-1 but Fathi’s shot was well parried over by Cape Verde goalkeeper, Josimar Diaz Vozinha in the 88th minute.

Egypt thought they had won the game after Mohamed netted in the 93rd minutes before Teixeira scored in the 99th minute to earn Cape Verde a point.

In the other game, Mozambique played out a 2-2 draw against Ghana, to end the Black Stars hope of qualifying to the knockout stages of the competition.

3-3 draw? No proofreading lol very impressive

  • In football sometimes you win, sometimes you Ghana

  • The one I watched o…na 2:2 the match ended. when then score 3:3 wasnt aware

Ghana is exiting their 2 consecutive AFCON without a win and from the group stages.

Something is so so wrong with ghanian football.

The last time they won an AFCON game was 2 July 2019 when they defeated Guine Bissau with 2 2nd half goals to nil

Ever since CAF introduced a very strict MRI scan regime to u17 football on the continent, Ghana has struggled to qualify for u17 world cups and from there breed a pool of quality and experienced players that can be future black stars players.

    • Wow! That is so true Dr Drey. Ghana hardly punches its weight in Under-17 football these days.

I feel bad for Selfie though, he is cool guy. Oh well, better luck next time to Ghana. As for Nigeria, I hope our coach employs a more progressive arrangement next time or he either fashions out a way of making this lame constellation they used against Guinea Bissau to work. Their play was truly grotesque today but they can do better.

The coach cost us this afcon! Very useless coach! Isn’t about talent! Ghana have some talent but our coach is bad

      • Selfieeeeee 🙁

I am so sorry that Ghana are struggling so bad. If Zambia and Algeria ship in basket load of goals then yes Ghana can still qualify. But you guys are playing poor football.

        Good luck thou.

      • Dr. Drey 8 months ago

        I’m sorry Selfmade KING,

I see no talent in this team apart from Kudus and Djiku. This team I see is so so ‘unGhanaian’. They could practically swap their jerseys with that of Togo or Niger and you wouldn’t know the difference. Anyone could mistake them for homebased players.

I don’t think the coach is the reason you guys have won just 1 afcon game in out of the last 10 or thereabout. You have Rajevac the last time Comoros was sending you back to accra from younde in the first round.

        • Selfmade KING 8 months ago

Dr.  we have talent on the bench tho

We have some dangerous players on the bench but our coaches as usual wanted to make Dede make history at the afcon!

          Corruption has been our bane!

          • Dr. Drey 8 months ago

            Wow, Selfie.
Football these days allows 5 subs. In 3 matches that’s 15 subs. You cant tell me these ‘dangerous players sat on the bench all the way….No.

A lot is wrong with the quality of what you call ‘talents’

            1 win in 10 games…..?

When last did Ghana feature at the U17 WC…? When last did Ghana feature at the u20 WC…? and when last did Ghana feature at the Olympics…?

Trust me, there lies the root of your problems

Ghana 2 Mozambique 2 Ghana team is right now at the airport waiting to board their flight home. Hmmmmmm! No comment.

  • Chima E Samuels 8 months ago

Ghana is the cause of their downfall because they’re focused on Nigeria’s downfall to their detriment. No peace for the Wicked!!!

Waiter, how many times will I call you?
If banku has finished, bring kenkey now?
    Please hurry up!

  • pompei 8 months ago

This may be the last time we see the Ayew brothers together on the pitch.
Could be their last Afcon as well.
    The end of an era.

  • Selfie,

Apart from the coach, the Black Stars players also seem low in confidence. What’s up with the team?

    • Selfmade KING 8 months ago

Nope that wasn’t true deo!! The coach brought in Dede ayew at 50 mins when there are better and dangerous players on the bench!

Our bench is loaded but our coach caused us this afcon!!

He switched to 5-4-1 in the second half without any game management!!

He took kudus off and the Mozambique then have the free space to operate!  The Mozambicans had their concentration on kudus and the moment he was subbed, the Mozambicans have free space now

      Our coach is worst

  • Tristan 8 months ago

God is cruel to Ghana, he must be a Nigerian! Can you imagine leading 2-0 at 90 minutes, 2-1 at 91 minutes, 2-2 full time.

    • Tristan, Not a word of lie, I had switched to the Egypt v Cape Verde match because I felt Ghana’s victory was already in the proverbial bag. I was shocked by the end result. Now Selfie my brother is praying for slip ups from Zambia and Algeria and also hoping that Cameroon doesn’t amass 3 points. It’s a tall order.

      • Tristan 8 months ago

Even that Ghanaian guy who has carried a calabash on his head throughout their 3 matches collapsed in disbelief! Men, the calabash dropped from his head he didn’t cedis coming!

  • pompei 8 months ago

When it comes to bottling games, I thought Arsenal were the team to beat. Looks like Ghana have outdone the Gunners.
To think the Banku Boyz were up 2-0 with 15 mins to the end of the game? And then, voila! The great choking commenced. Ghana shipped 2 goals in 15 mins, and the game was well and truly bottled.
It’s been a crazy day of football!

    • pompei 8 months ago

      Oh, I now know why.
      GHANA sounds like GUNNER.

      • Selfmade KING 8 months ago

The coach is stupid! Bringing in Dede ayew destroyed our team!!

Caf wanted Ghana to qualify because we have a lot of supporters in Ivory Coast!

They made Egyptians played 12 mins of time added on

  • pompei 8 months ago

That Ghana goalie must be kicking himself.
Why did he give away that last second corner kick? Very unnecesary!
At least, Uzoho does not give away last second corner kicks.

  • Tristan 8 months ago

Nigerians should not access Twitter because they could die of laughter. The banter about Ghana can kill.

  • pompei 8 months ago

The Bankus did not CEDIS coming.
    Now, they ACCRAing.
    Epele ooo.

I said it before here but some people did not believe me. Some thought it was one of my usual jokes but i think it is now becoming a reality. The reason why Ghana is so backward now and finds it hard to make any meaningful impact in football lately is bcs of their cruel hatred and jealousy for Nigeria. Their bad belle against Nigeria for no just reason is bouncing back at them big time. They always want Nigeria to fail in everything. How can u exopain the fact that they were 2 goals up against a team like ‘Mozambique’ and then surrendered their 2 goal lead just within a space of 5 mins to the end of the game? How is that possible_???? their evil heart against us, their evil wishes and thought always came back to haunt them big time. Ghana, let Nigeria be!! Free your minds for where we dy and u shall begin to progress in football. I told that dude called selfmade not to count his eggs before they hatch but he was so filled with pride and bad belle that he failed to see the truth in what i told him. He said they were gonna destroy Mozambique even before the game started. Who is fooling who now????? What a shame !

    • Boss gtf. You equally hate Ghana with passion so shut up and stop the pretence. Of course we are out but you also watch your back. Were we in the same group as Nigeria? Why would a Ghanaian hate you. This is purely a football banter and nothing else so stop that useless write up and grow up.

    • Selfmade KING 8 months ago

      Stop your buffoonery! U punk!!

U BACKWARD IDIOTA! U stupid puta!!

Nigerians hate themselves more than Ghanaians hate them!

      U LOW LIVE SCUMBAG!!

      @ oak field

      • Edoman 8 months ago

Didn’t l tell you Ghanaians, that Mozambique will be your waterloo? yes, l did. One stupid Ghanaian guy then called my good self, a bad name. l just learnt that the so-call ‘black stars’ are back home. I noticed that the Ghanaians back-men are not serious as l thought they can easily concede the ball without and within their areas. Anyway, the rest is history. Better try next time.

      • Oakfield 8 months ago

        Hahahahaha…the truth hurts…lol

  • So sad Ghana is out. My condolences Yaw and Selfmade King. But you just have to stop your hate words against Nigeria. It’s not useful. Really I believe the ayee brothers have no business in that team again

  • Obaiy 8 months ago

Ghana has everything working against them in this afcon even thier own prophet whom the fans insulted prophecied that Ghana shall be booted out for insulting him something is definitely wrong with Ghanaians.
