AFCON 2023: We Must Do Everything To Top Our Group —Chukwueze

Samuel Chukwueze has said the Super Eagles will do everything possible to finish top of their group at the AFCON 2023.

The Eagles bounced back from their disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea with a hard fought 1-0 win against hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

Currently, the Eagles are second on four points behind leaders Equatorial Guinea, who also have four points.

To finish top in Group A, Jose Peseiro’s men must beat Guinea-Bissau on Monday and hope Equatorial Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire end in a draw or the former does not win by a wide margin.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s crucial tie with Guinea-Bissau Chukwueze, in an exclusive chat with Brila FM said:”No small country in this Cup of Nations so our fans should expect the fighting spirit from the team.

“We have to win, we have to top the group and remain in Abidjan so I will urge the fans to keep believing in us.”

The last time the Eagles met Guinea-Bissau at the AFCON was the 2021 edition which they won 2-0 in the group stage.

In the AFCON 2023 qualifiers, Guinea-Bissau stunned the Eagles 1-0 in Abuja.

However, the return leg saw the Eagles emerge 1-0 winners.

For what I see so far about the super Eagles now, I see that they are hungry and determined to go all the way for the victory in tomorrow’s encounter. Remembering their experience against Guinea Bisaau in the last world Cup qualifier is enough to know that they’re not taking this match or any match after the final group stages for granted.
