Fidelis Ilechukwu, has said Super Eagles players are ready to take on Rwanda on matchday 2 of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
The Eagles got their Group D AFCON qualifying campaign off to a perfect start with a 3-0 win against Benin Republic on Saturday in Uyo.
Victor Osimhen marked his return to the team with a goal while Ademola Lookman bagged a brace.
The Eagles will now face Rwanda on matchday 2 on Tuesday, September 10.
Reflecting on the win, Ilechukwu expressed delight that despite the short time, the team still managed to secure the three points.
“I’m so happy, we are happy, Nigerians are happy. We are happy because we won with little time so to me in the happiest man on earth,” Ilechukwu said in a video posted on the X handle of Official54fx.
“We will do our best, to me the boys are ready we have prepared very well. It’s going to be a very tight game but we will do our best. We have players like Osimhen and co so everybody is ready. We saw what Moses did, saw Ndidi in the middle and our bench is solid.”
The Rangers head coach praised interim handler Austin Eguavoen for leading the Eagles to victory.
“Austin Eguavoen is a coach who carry everybody along, he is a coach who we love, his tactical approach, his technical approach and to me he is the best thing to happen to Nigeria now especially in this short period of time and together with our little support.“

Lmao… hopefully osimhen should be able to score 9 goals cos he performs well against cheap teams… lmao
One thing we can’t take away from Eguaveon philosophy is his preference for entertaining football, which ofcourse has full support of the Nigerian fans, players and his team of assistants. When such brings good result like what was experienced yesterday; his forward thinking approach that saw Lookman roving in width for the duration and not undermining the impactful midfielders as we saw Ndidi marshalling the center with vertical passes which gave room for more direct play. Personally, I saw a creation of quick attacking opportunities that caught Coach Gernot Rohr’s lads off guard. Those opportunities were what led to all the goals and I would expect Coach Eguaveon to improve on that. By and large and not conceeding the fact that there are no longer football minnows in Africa, I see a reincarnation of the Super Eagles of yore.
Gbam!
I think the veteran coach Augustine Eguavoen is suitable coach who can lead Super Eagles to the next AFCON. 2025 in Morocco , also he can lead them to the final World Cup 2026 if NFF deal him like dealing foreign coaches , pay him and his assistants with Dollars , grant him strong assistance , grant him free hand to take important decisions for SE affairs like selecting players, selecting SE match’s times , selecting counterclaim SE matches, selecting his assistants and foreign one if he would like…
The conclusion by everybody is to have Egu take NIGERIA to the World cup and not just Afcon. The problem with NFF is that they have refused to realized that soccer is such that you win some, draw some and lose some. Egu should be given at least a 4 year contract, and lets see if the so-called Brazil, Germany, Spain, Italy et’al will see our tail…….Alhaji Gusau, over to una.
