Black Stars of Ghana head coach, Otto Addo has explained the reason behind his decision to drop Thomas Partey from the squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Angola and Niger.
The Arsenal star was a notable omission from Ghana’s squad for the crucial qualifiers.
Addo stated that the decision was made after he held talks with Partey.
“I had a confidential talk with Thomas,” said the coach when announcing the squad.

“I am a coach who always likes to protect the players, so I hope for your understanding.
“For me, the team is like family, I am not coming out with internal issues – but I made it quite clear to him. He wanted to come, he wanted to come, but I made it quite clear why he is not coming.
“Like I said, it’s confidential. It is difficult for me to mention all the things. It’s like that. We have to move on. Now, as you know, Thomas is not coming and it’s not a permanent thing, so we are always open for him to return.
“I hope that the things we talked that he will do better in that and that he will join the team maybe in the next window in March. I think he had a good perspective. We had a good talk and we are on good terms.”

Even floundering Ghana coach is not afraid to drop big name players when his “life” as Ghana coach depends on these qualifiers window.
Because the next window is in March. But not Eguavoen. Why he is AFRAID that the replacements for his PERPETUAL CORE will outshine them if they are called upon, beats me.
Super Eagles is not his project. He hasn’t unearthed anyone. His “interim” should end even if his class of 94 are egging him on.
I hope Gusau is not lying that he is seeking sponsorship to pay foreign coaches for our national teams like MTN, Dangote. He has not won anything two years into his tenure.
It is very certain that these Nigerian players barring injury will prosecute WC qualifiers in March because there’ll be no friendlies before then. So, no competition in Eagles, one year on. Sad!
