AFCON 2025Q: Eguavoen Speaks On Osimhen’s Absence; Banks On Boniface, Awoniyi

Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has backed the likes of Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho to deliver the goods in the absence of Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen will miss the team’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Libya due to injury.

The Galatasaray forward’s absence will be a big blow for the Super Eagles, who have relied on him for goals in recent outings.

Eguavoen believed the other strikers will do well in his absence.

“Football is all about collective effort, it’s a team sport not individual sport,” Eguavoen told the Super Eagles media.

“It’s a huge miss. We all know how important and impactful Osimhen can be, but we have other players who can do the job.

“He’s not here physically, but he’s with us spiritually.”

Lool!!! “…the farther backward you can look the farther forward you can see” Without Osimhen, Peseiro struggled in the WC qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. His absence, per Finidi, cost us games against SA and Benin. If you like be inviting players that are yet to kick a ball this season. Let me hold my peace sha. Good luck!

Man Mi leave story. Iheanacho will do the business. Are you trying to say Osimhen is far better than Iheanacho?

      • Onwajunior 1 month ago

Nope…not saying that. But somehow, whenever Osimhen doesn’t play we struggle, even against so-called minors.

Benjamin Tanimu is from Benin City… Eguaveon is from Edo state… what is the connection? Eguadiola is a fraud…

People say Benjamin Tanimu is northern quota.

What happened to Cyriel Dessers, Chuba Akpom. You and foolish NFF always invite unfit players

    • Yes, I know owngoal can be very sensational and can reek of fake news without abandon, but Jimmyball, I want you to Google this:

“Government pikin – Super Eagles players react to invitation of England Div 3 player Tanimu for AFCON qualifiers”

That’s why I hate the idea of local coaches for our senior national teams. They are spineless and always manipulated

We might kiss goodbye to our desired foreign born talents if (if? No, since) this sterile, classless and brazen action will continue to haunt Eagles.

I wanted to see falcons list since another local coach is in charge, for any match this year. Retrogressive.

Tanimu is a Kaduna boy. He only played for Bendel Insurance

Good we are now discussing players Coach iEgu invited to camp. With this
Mindset, I’m , sure we are moving on. Up up up up Super Eagles.

Kolo read what you wrote if it makes sense to you.

  • You are banking on the wrong players apart from Boniface.

Let us see how you want to pass this test.

Eguaveon’s coached Super Eagles of Nigeria must not disappoint o.

For me, if Boniface fails to do the needful, please stop inviting him. This will be the 4th of 5th game and he is not delivering. Several excuses as been made for him, so this time around, the ball is in his court

    • Who is the best alternative? Ihenacho that has neither scored nor assisted anyone this year? Awoniyi who is injury prone and not even completely fit so far? Chukwueze who is a bench warmer in AC Milan (oops, he is not a striker). We are talking of strikers out and out. Ejuke who might likely not even start is the only quality, active alternative

Eguavoen is only just relying on the so called talent in the team. His list of attackers who don’t have 10 goals collectively this season that’s almost 8 weeks old is expected to deliver against Libya in the absence of Osimhen. Wow.

Thank God that lookman is in the squad. The motivation for APOTY will be sufficient to drive the team because Eguavoens forward line is uninspiring.

I’m even shocked that benchwarmer ihenacho is still strolling to camp. E godfather strong sha. E feel say he got nothing to prove.

Regarding Boniface, he seems to be getting back to full fitness. Alonso has been on his case.
It was comical watching an overweight Boniface running around on the pitch in our last international games. See stomach doing jigi-jigi as he moved his bulk around! Professional footballer fa? Even retired footballers don’t allow themselves to deteriorate that bad.
With his performance and goals in recent games for Leverkusen, he is expected to lead the line against Libya.
As for Iheanacho and Awoniyi, why bank on unfit, off-form players, when you have the likes of Akpom, Orban, Dessers, Arokodare, Olatunji? Let’s just hope Boniface and Lookman in particular bring their scoring boots to the party. Else, we might be heading into a long, frustration filled double header.

This is to tell us that Eguavoen doesn’t know what he is doing. How would you count on Boniface and Ayoniyi?

They haven’t impressed anyone in the Super Eagles. Only our wingers can do the job as far as I am concerned.

Eguavoen is very sentimental and corrupt.
Dessers and Arokodare are very good strikers but he ignored them
I will advise you Nigerians to limit your expectations on Eguavoen. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
