Afghanistan have sealed their place in the Super 12s of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup, edging out Sri Lanka in qualifying.
Sri Lanka won the World T20 tournament in 2014 but are only in the group stage section of the tournament next year after Afghanistan took the final place in the guaranteed Super 12s section – alongside hosts Australia and the six other highest-placed teams in the Twenty20 world rankings – Pakistan, India, England, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are next in the rankings and will fight it out in the initial group stage with four other sides to begin with, where four of those six will then also qualify for the Super 12s.
Ireland, Zimbabwe and Scotland are among the teams who will take part in the 14-team T20 Global Qualifier, staged in October or November this year, which will provide the four final countries in the group stage.
