Aguirre To Coach Omeruo, Awaziem At Leganes

Former Egypt national team head coach Javier Aguirre has been appointed as La Liga outfit Leganes manager on Monday.

Aguirre served as Egypt head coach for around a year, taking charge of the Pharaohs in 12 games across all competitions.

During his time in Egypt, the Pharaohs won nine games, drew one, while losing only twice, including a humiliating defeat in the 2019 AFCON round of 16 against South Africa.

However, that didn’t stop him from acquiring a high profile job in Spain as on Monday, he was unveiled as La Liga side Leganes’ new manager.

The Mexican signed a contract until the end of the season with an option for a further year, should he help Leganes stay in the top flight.

This marks Aguirre’s fifth stint in Spain, having managed the likes of Atlético Madrid, CA Osasuna, Real Zaragoza, and Espanyol.

Aguirre will make his debut for Leganes next Friday, when they travel to face Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena, before his side host Barcelona at home after the international break.

12 games into the season, Leganes found themselves bottom of the league table with five points, winning just one game.
