Aina In Shock Home Loss With Torino Against Lowly Lecce

Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina featured in FC Torino’s shock 2-1 home defeat to Lecce in a Serie A game at the Stadio Olimpico Grande, Torino, on Monday night, Completesports.com reports.

Aina started and featured for the whole 90 minutes as Torino failed to make home advantage count against the visitors who recorded their first win of the season.

Diego Farias put the visitors ahead on 35 minutes, but Torino drew level on 58 minute via a penalty converted by Andrea Belotti. Marco Mancosu then came from the bench to score the winning goal for Lecce on 73 minutes.

It was Aina’s 3rd game of the season. The 22-year old have played all of Torino’s three Serie A matches to far this term.

Torino manager, Walter Mazzarri apologozed to the club’s teeming fans for the disappointment from the home defeat.

“Tonight many things went wrong. I said that Lecce was a good team, and we still underestimated them. We probably did the preparation wrong, because we were too different from the team that played against Atalanta, even though they were all the same players,” Mazzarri said.

“They were physically better than them. I take my responsibilities: I’m the coach and the team is mine. I’m sorry for the fans who supported us for the whole match.”

Torino are currently fourth in the 20-team Serie A on six points behind Inter Milan, Bologna and Juventus. Lecce’s win has taken them up to the 17th position on three points at the bottom rung of the table having lost their first two games of the season.

The Mazzarri’s men will face home side Sampdoria in their next Serie A match on Sunday, September 22.
