Ajani Ibrahim will play no part in Rangers’ battle of Ougadougou on Sunday against Salitas in the matchday-5 of Total CAF Confederation Cup Group B fixture, Completesports.com reports.
The winger has been handed a one match suspension having been cautioned twice.
Ibrahim second yellow card came on Sunday in Rangers’ 2-0 home defeat by Etoile due Sahel at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, following a needless clattering into an opponent.
Rangers are third in the Group B table with four points and need all three points at Salitas to revive hopes of a possible knockout stage qualification.
Manager Gbenga Ogunbote was without the quartet of strikers Bobby Clement and Ifeanyi George, and defenders Pape Sane Ousmane and Semiu Liadi in Sunday’s embarrassing defeat to Etoile du Sahel at The Cathedral.
While Clement missed the Sahel clash on account of yellow card suspension, George is said to have had a knock while Sane is recuperating from from a knee problem.
The absence of winger Ibrahim in the crucial trip to Salitas further adds to the squad depletion the Flying Antelopes are going through despite the likely return of Liadi for the Ougadougou showdown.
A defeat in Burkina Faso could ultimately ruin the Nigerians’ ambition of progression to the knockout stage of the continent’s second tier inter club competition.
